Freaking Out. Please Help.

We booked our honey moon last week and when my mom found out we're going just to Jamiaca for $4300 she flipped out. Now I'm flipping out. It's all inclusive, Couples resort with jacuzzi, etc.

I know many of you are spending at least $5K and that this is nothing. But when I think about it, it does seem like a lot. We never really travel is my arguement. I may have to email our travel agent and see if we can do something different - we got insurance which allows us to not even go if we don't want to.

As silly as it sounds, we need a couch so badly, that's FOUR couches. That is almost 5 months rent. I'm starting to panic, we're really strapped for money.

just b/c it's expensive doesn't mean it's going to be wonderful. before you booked did you price out the same trip on your own? we went to jamaica in march 2006 the whole trip cost us $2000. we bid on the hotel on skyauction and won our price and we bought the airfare separate.

i would shop around with your exact trip and see if you can find it for less - maybe the agent will work with you JMO

my theory on the honeymoon is that it should be something you will both enjoy and possibly never get the chance to do again.

If you have the cash and were already planning on spending that much then I say don't worry about it, just go for it. However, if you're really strapped for cash then maybe you can see if you can get a better deal or a cheaper package. . .

I think it's because I want couples only, no kids, no groups of bachelor party guys, all-inclusive. I guess it's a once-in-a-lifetime trip. I may call our tavel agent for advice anyway.

I think it's because I want couples only, no kids, no groups of bachelor party guys, all-inclusive. I guess it's a once-in-a-lifetime trip. I may call our tavel agent for advice anyway.

that's understandable - but all i was saying was that alot of people feel if they pay alot of money for a trip it's going to be perfect and that's not always the case that why i asked if you priced out what the travel agent gave you on your own, just to compare. only because if you can get the same exact trip for lets say $1000 less, that's a huge difference when you're planning a wedding. as we all know every penny counts! please don't think i'm being nasty b/c i'm not at all i'm 100% trying to help!

Oh, I know you are! I think you're right, I totally know this wont be a perfect trip. What is ever perfect. I'm calling him Monday to see if we can get a cheaper trip or what are options are. I'm so depressed over al this money ****. Fighting w/FH telling me how this is all a big waste of money, wedding, etc. and how we should be saving fo a house. I just want to call it all off and run away at this point :(

well it is all inclusive with jaccuzzi.. you have to think about everything you may find a room for 1000-1500(standard hotel 2-3star standard room) but plane tickets about 800-1000(depending when u go) plus activities which will be about 60-90 depending what you want to do.. plus food which will probably be 100 per night... plus think about 7-8 dollars per drink.. that will add up to about the same..

I'm spending about $5500 in a all-inclusive but VIP room pool beach.... its close to my half year rent.. but it is our honeymoon.. its a once in a lifetime thing so we were ok with spending that money..


btw 4300 for jamiaca isnt bad at all.. let her know that the better places like Tahiti, maldives, hawaii will cost you about 8,000.00-15,000.00

I don't think that's too much for a HM but it really depends on what you and FH feel comfortable spending.

We're going to St. Lucia for our HM and it's costing us about $5800. We are staying at Sandals-all inclusive for 8 days. That's including air both ways and a penthouse HM Beachfront room. We decided to book a room that was in between the highpriced rooms and the regular priced rooms. We felt it was our HM, so we should splurge a little more than we normally would. If this is a little too much for you, than I would talk with the TA and ask him if you can get a better deal. Maybe you can cut a night or take a later flight, or downgrade the room.

Thank you everyone for your advice, etc. I don't think $4300 is that crazy for a HM. I think it's my family that's making us nervous.

I keep saying it's ONCE in a lifetime!!! We will never have a jacuzzi suite agan - ha ha!

We are opting not doing a honeymoon because we rather have a place to sit in our livingroom or possibly affording a place to live with out paying rent. I think sometimes I wish it was like when my parents went a honeymoon where they spent like a few hundred and wetn away for a few days and it wasn't a big deal.

you can still do a small honeymoon!! a weekend getaway place for a few hundred! do something your style whether its fun and active or relaxing ! it does not have to be so much money..

and for the original poster --4000 something is pretty reasonable for a HM no worries.. all inclusive is great -go have fun.. u just want to check what is included in the all inclusive because if it includes activities that u and hubby would never want to do then thats a waste or if it involves dinner in a seafood restaurant and your allergic thats kinda a waste! how many days is it for?
