Ok, ladies...I'm going beserk over here. I went to a showcase yesterday and I fell in love with a photographer. I came on here, got some reviews and heard mixed things. Then I found out they were on the Better Business Bureau but they haven't had any complaints within 36 months. So then I got really bummed because I figure if you're on there it's probably not worth doing business.
WELL, I got curious today and I checked out my RH and THEY WERE ON THERE They have had three complaints within the last three years.
Now I don't know what to think. Do I believe the BBB, how am I ever going to decide on anything. I love my RH and I have faith in them but they have complaints and I'm shooting down this photographer and they have no complaints. AHH!! I'm going crazy!!! Please help me calm down, I don't know what to think or how to choose anything anymore and I'm an '09 bride!! How am I gonna do this when the date gets closer???

Sometimes people make complaints and no matter what the venue does to make them happy - they never are! So the complaint will stay up. If you fell in love with your RH, stick with them! Same with photogs - sometimes no matter what a vendor does, their client is not satisfied...
Ask for references if you're still unhappy. Don't worry about freaking out. We all do it!

Don't worry! Like someone just said, some people make complaints without it really being a big deal....also if the RH addressed the complaints that means they rectified the problems. I would be worried if the BBB said the RH didn't address the complaints.
As for the photogrpaher...if you like their work that is all that is important and now you know what they did wrong with othe rbirdes and you can address it with them before the big day.
Now I am going to check my RH lol

First, calm down.
Don't freak out about your RH, obviously you booked them for a very good reason so try to remember that. I'm not trying to discredit the BBB, but there were only 3 complaints out of how many weddings that have been held there!!?!!
Look at the reviews on here and figure out if there's more positive or negative things, and how important are those things to you. Remember, different brides have different priorities so something that may have been a huge deal to someone else may not matter to you.
Same goes for this potential photographer. Don't be a mess from now until your wedding day, trust in your judgements!!

Take a deep breath. It'll be ok. Remember that some people are difficult to please and what may be acceptable by one person's standards is worth reporting to BBB to someone else. Having said that you may want to investigate a little more about the complaints. See what BBB says, look for reviews on this site and other wedding sites, maybe even do a google search. If you see a lot of the same things being repeated, then you have cause for concern. However, don't let a few bad apples spoil your wedding. I might even talk to your BM about some of the complaints you read. It could be that there was different management at the time which led to problems but they've since fixed it. If you feel really strongly that you shouldn't work with someone who has a BBB record, I'd start looking for another place but honestly, I'd try to make it work with what I've got so far. HTH.

I second this. Best way to learn about the vendor is to hear from other people who were in your situation.

3 complaints in 3 years is relatively not that much. They've prob held soooo many weddings in that amount of time.

If it's category #1, I'd research it and find more references.... If it's 2 or 3, it likely isn't that bad. Search the bride reviews and see what people's experiences are....

Thank you so much for all of your advice ladies. You're absolutely right. It all depends on the specific person and something that they didn't like might not matter to me and I should address the vendors if I feel really concerned, especially asking for references. The good news is that the issues for my RH have been resolved (even if people still aren't happy) and almost all of the issues were from refunding money (which I'm guessing is from cancelling). I don't see this happening to me and everything I want is in my contract and they have been nothing but sweet to me.
As far as the photographer, the reviews I found were split down the middle. I think now it's down to actually going to their studio, seeing more of their work and if I still feel the need, ask for references.
I'm sorry to freak out like that. I just felt like I was getting so overwhelmed and I'm not even close to 09 yet! Thank you so much again ladies. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your responses!!

In the grand scheme of things....3 complaints over 3 years...there are what 52 weekend in a year...well say 2 a weekend...thats 300 weddings (give or take) and 3 complaints!!! I wouldnt worry.
Now if there were like 80 then Id worry. People also will find anything to complain about sometimes..some complaints are just a little out there in my opinion. BUt to each his own I guess
