Friday of Labor Day weekend

Would you get married here or do you think I will get alot of nos? Do you think alot of people go away for labor day weekend? Any drawbacks? TIA

I still believe that if people are going to come to your wedding and they want to be there for you, it doesn't matter when it is...

You just have to give them more than enough notice... like 11-12 months.

i would do it...i agree that if people want to come they will.
IMO i would prefer to attend a labor day weekend wedding on a Sunday but thats just me.
A concern may be if you have a lot of OOT guests bc even if they book it in advance it will be more expensive than other (non-holiday) weekends.

we were considering memorial day

labor day is usually around fh's birthday so friends are always around.

i think people are always looking for a good reason to get together for the holiday weekend anwway. I dont think people go away as much anymore, and if they cant sacrifice one year to not go away for your wedding then you dont want them there to begin with!

I think it is a good idea. Just make sure you send out a Save the Date as soon as possible that way people can put that time aside for your wedding and not go away. Again, like others said, if they really want to be there, they will make you a priority.

my sister got married this year on the friday of 4th of july weekend and i was in another wedding the monday of memorial day weekend i have mixed feelings on this.

the july one was nice because almost all the guests were local and people just kept celebrating all weekend and it was nice to have off on monday to recover.

on the flip side the wedding on memorial day was a PITA it was on the actual monday that everyone has off and the couple got married in MA (they live in RI and the bride is originally from LI so everyone had to travel) and had to take off the next day to travel home, plus it had to end relatively early because it was a monday night.

I say its fine to have a wedding on a holiday weekend if most people have off the next day or if its on a friday or saturday of a holiday weekend. Like another poster said make sure to send save the dates early giving people a heads up of the date, thats what we're doing becuase techincally we're getting married on a holiday weekend too ( the monday after is columbus day but i dont think its gonna be an issue, i'm pretty sure only teachers and gov't employees have off on columbus day so i doubt people will be going away)

We're getting married the Sunday before memorial day. We felt this way the OOT guests had a day to get home and ppl can relax after the wedding since for $$ reasons we wanted a sunday wedding.

FH's best friend got married the Friday of Labor Day this year and I think he still had a great turn out. I'd say go for it!

i always say if people are going to come to your wedding, they will come no matter what date you chose... Doing it on that friday, will still give the people an ability to go away for the next 3 days if they really want to....

I say DO IT!!!!

i don't think there's anything wrong with it! as the other girls said, the people who want to come to your wedding will. just make sure you give them plenty of notice in case they need to book hotels/flights/etc.

I love it and a lot of people tell me its a great date...I was worried a lot of people would say negative things that I was having a holiday weekend party, I reallllly expected people to be rolling their eyes and complaining- but so far not the case

but the friday of the labor day is not THE holiday...i kind of feel like my wedding is the kick off for the partying that week end!

I personally would not have a labor DAY wedding, I had to go to 2 holiday parties(memorial day) and i remember being pissed that I was missing a good BBQ lol

but you def have to book soon and tell people soon so that people don't go away that weekend...I am sending my STDs out tomorrow

people def need substantial notice for a holiday weekend
