What is everyone's opinion on having a Friday night wedding? I am leaning towards the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. I figured the majority of people attending the wedding either have the day off or get out early anyway. Plus, our top RH pick is giving us a pretty amazing deal for that night... any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated

Re: Friday weddings
We were thinking of doing the Friday of July 4th weekend, but the thought of our guests driving up on I-95 on the Friday of a 3 day weekend made us decide against it.
If most are local, I would say go for it. I was in a Memorial Day weekend wedding a few years back, and it was nice to have the extra day for travel!

Re: Friday weddings
I'm doing a Friday.
Church at 4:00 CH at 7:00
My thing is if our wedding is important enough to them, they will leave work a little early to get to the church. Otherwise, we will see them at the cocktail hour.
I don't know too many people that work on Saturdays besides FH and myself lol so i think it will be ok

We're having a Friday, church at 3:00 and CH beginning at 7:00. Granted we are getting married on Veteran's Day so some do have off, I work in a dental office where being open on holidays like Vet's day is ideal because the majority of the patient population is off. So the important people will be sure to put in for the day I'm sure.

Re: Friday weddings
Traffic may be very heavy that Friday night. Also do not assume that all of your guests will get out of work early. I never get out early the day before a holiday nor do most of my coworkers. In the end you have to make the choice that is best for you and your FH.

Re: Friday weddings
I love Friday night weddings - ours is a Friday during the summer so it will be easier for people to get off/leave early to get to the church at 4. I also don't expect everyone to be at the church- however, my sister's ceremony at the church was packed for Friday wedding in the summer a couple of years ago. Also, as a guest, I love going to Friday night weddings and having the rest of the weekend to recover!

Re: Friday weddings
Im doing a friday night and I'm not having any issues with guests at all. The church is later afternoon but the CH does not start until 7 or 7:30. Plenty of time for them to get out of work.
You can usually get a better price per person on a friday...and to me it was really no big difference.

Re: Friday weddings
My wedding is a Friday and I did this for a few reasons. First off the price was $20 less a head. With that being said I upgraded my dinner menu( FH and I went with better food or day) I also like that I am the only event of the day it gave me more control over time. I am taking pictures before the church and starting the church at 5:00... Party starts at 7:30.. I didn't want a big break after the church.
Someone is always going to have an issue with something at your wedding. Do what is best for you and don't worry about the people that mean the most will make it work and be there.

Re: Friday weddings
I like Friday night weddings, but I'm not fond of them on holiday weekends. I attended one in CT on Memorial Day weekend, and I sat in traffic for over 5 hours....Do you have a lot of guests from out of town?....JMO

Im doing a friday holiday weekend
I am a fan of whatever makes the bride/groom happy and whatever fits their pocket!
my thoughts on a friday holiday weekend is that people might take off anyway plus its more enticing to take off/leave early on a holiday weekend
i also like that on a friday night you will be the only wedding that day so you can start/end whenever you want and show up to RH any time.
DO WHAT YOU WANT!!
im so tired of hearing people trash talk thursday/friday weddings, its annoying...bottom line is people who love you will make it ANY day you choose
those who love you will either get there the night before if traffic is a big issue or leave early...and people shouldnt mind taking off of work or leaving early...its WORK! who doesn't love a reason to get off of work lol!
the ppl who have the attitude that it is an inconvenience, don't deserve to be at your wedding and quite frankly I wouldn't want anyone at my wedding who felt like any part of it was an inconvenience! just my opinion!
go for the friday...i also refused to spend 20 dollars more pp for the SAME stuff, just because it was a saturday, its obsurd, its like rape lol!

Re: Friday weddings
We're doing a Friday night! I agree with LoveyDovey, do what you want! To be honest the thought of guests having and issue with it didn't even cross my mind until after we booked. It's your day have it when you want and the people that want to be there will.

Re: Friday weddings
i am a firm believer that if i spend the money to send you a SAVE THE DATE over a year in advance, then you should listen to me and SAVE THE DATE!!! (isnt that the point of these overpriced extras??)
if people who really want to come cant put in a notice to work over a year in advance then they are just rude.
so to conlude my story I enjoy friday weddings, gives me something to look forward to at the end of the week and its much cheaper!
The End

Thank you all for your advice, I really appreciate it!
The traffic is a concern on a holiday weekend.. I didn't think of that. But the majority of guests live on Long Island so it shouldn't be too big of a deal.
I can't assume people will take off work, but the important people will go out of their way to be there!

That should be fine, then! Our issue was that FH's family and most of his friends are in the DC area, and we felt bad asking them to hang out on the Jersey Turnpike for hours on a holiday weekend!
