Friend Dilemma

Friend Dilemma

Ok here it goes - I know this woman (I'll call her Heather for the sake of having a name to the person). I have known her for 20 years (since we were 10 years old). After high school we kinda drifted apart and she didn't really call me until she wanted to set me up with FH.
Afterwards she feels like I owe her for setting me up with FH and each time we (FH and I) wanted to hang out she would say no- mind you I didn't get any emails or phone calls from her unless she needed something or w/e. So I said to FH 'okay we don't have to talk to her or w/e, we're done with her'.
She got mad I didn't call her to tell her that I was engaged - I felt that if she wanted to talk to me she knows my phone number and all.
She sent me an email all of a sudden asking me what went wrong- I replied that it was partially my fault that it was a 2 way street (trying to keep the peace) and that if she wanted to get together, we can (her and her new fiance and me and FH). She even offered to cook dinner!
FH thinks she's just trying to get an invite to the wedding- I want to just have dinner with her and see where it goes from there- not to invite her just yet to wedding festivities and the wedding but just to see if she's trying to be a real friend again.

What do you ladies think I should do? Meet with her for dinner and see if she's for real or just dismiss her altogether?

I would definitely suggest that you meet her up for dinner...both of you could just be misunderstanding each other's actions and this would be a great opportunity for you to feel each other out...I would even urge you to invite her to the wedding if you could handle the extra cost..but firstly, just watch how she acts when you see her and ask FH what he thinks about everything after you guys have dinner because he should be a neutral party and he'll probably give you an unbiased opinion..HTH

I don't think theres any harm in having dinner and hey you never know how it will go. It seems like you want to so i say go for it. If I thought you really weren' t interested then i would say not to do it but do whatever you feel is right

I'm really curious as to how she is going to act.. if she seems fake (which I can tell - known her for 20 years..lol) I would know it's because she just wants an invite.. if not I know that she really wants to make amends.

Now I have to convince FH to go to the dinner- he's not too keen on it.

I think you should meet with her and see how it goes. It cant hurt.

I went through a similiar problem! I def. suggest you meet up with her first. I suggested that to my friend, she never wanted to meet...so there was no worrying about who would be on the invite list. See how it goes...maybe you can patch things up

I would meet up with her and her new FH. Maybe, just maybe it is just mis-communication! There is always a possibility that she is trying. Good luck!

Just an update- FH refuses to go to dinner with her and her fiance but I am going to go regardless and see.

yea i would go its the correct thing to do. You never know how a relationship developes after some time apart. I notice many of my friends are coming out of the woodwork with the annoucement of the engagement. The ones that i have steadily hung out with through fh's and i relationship are slowly leaving us exception of one.

so always give it a try she seems fishy then don't worry about it. Never say your going to invite someone until you are ready to send out invites this way if the relationship changes again its not too late.

If you known her a long time I would still try and convince FH to go to the dinner. See how she acts, she may honestly feel bad and want to make amends...Its great that you two were able to talk it out...usually girls just stop talking and never hear from each other again...good luck!
