'Friend' question

Re: 'Friend' question

I think you are right, people can and do drift apart over time..and relationships have cycles...but all relationships are a two way street. You reached out to her to see how she is doing and she has chosen not to respond.. What can you do? Maybe she had a really busy day at work...Hopefully she will snap out of it, return your call, share your joy and all will be well. But if not, some people are just around for a time in your life...try not to stress, it will work itself out.

And if you see her at the friend's party, be nice and speak to her and let her know that you emailed her and if she is not friendly, you just have to let it go.

Re: 'Friend' question

If she was really your friend she'd understand. My best friend is single and we have so many different things going on. Plus im always broke and shes loaded. Its hard for me to do the stuff she wants to do. Because she is a true friend we're ok.

If she doesnt understand then you shouldnt feel bad.

And fyi my friend offered to leave work in the city and come to my house and take me to the ER today. Thats a friend.

Re: 'Friend' question

I've always thought that my true friends are the ones that I might not see for a year, but when we do, its like no time has passed at all.

There are girls from college who are like this to me. As an undergrad, especially in my upperclassman years, I was really busy working and networking and doing what I had to do. They were still skipping class and getting ready to go out to the city at 11:30pm. I just couldnt do that anymore, and frankly, I didn't want to. Also, after FH graduated and moved our of the dorms, I wanted to spend time with him on the weekends. I still saw them, but most of them were single or had boyfriends but pretty much hated them lol, so they didn't understand when i wanted to spend time with FH. FBIL is good friends with this group of girls and he would always say 'they miss you, they want to see you' but then when I would come out they would blatantly give me a cold shoulder. No thanks.

After that, I cleaned out my friend folder...I am a good, loyal friend, and if you can't accept me, you don't deserve me. I have lots of acquaintances but only a small group that I call 'friends.' In my opinion, friendship should not be hard work...yes sometime we have to put in effort, but it shouldn't be so hard. We're growing up and true friends realize that sometimes, work and family take over but a friend is a friend through it all.

I don't know if any of that is giving you advice but if I were you, I would think long and hard about whether this friend is worth the effort or not. Maybe she was a friend at the right time in your life, but now that you are in different places, she'll take another role in your life, maybe a less active one.

I think you've done all you can do and the ball is in her court.

This...

I got some great advice from my parents that was so simple.... when my BM and FH had all that drama and she basically deleted me from her life, ' remember what's important.'

Well said. I couldn't agree more.
