Hi! Does anyone know what has to be done in order for a close friend to marry us? He is already ordained and has performed two ceremonies, but they took place in MA. What does he need to do to make sure it would be legal on Long Island? Thanks to anyone who may have info on this.

Officiants in New York:
According to Section 11 of the Domestic Relations Law, an officiant must be an authorized, officially ordained member of the clergy or a public official in the State of New York such as a mayor, city clerk, deputy city clerk, appointed marriage officer, justice, or judge. In New York City, an officiant must be registered with the City of New York. Ship captains can not perform marriage ceremonies in New York State.
So if your friend is ordained, then you should be ok, no? My friends in Georgia did this and were ok. You should probably check in with the County Clerks Office, though
