My friends are getting married in 2008 and my wedding is June of 2009. They like to say your wedding is so far away, what do you say to people like that?

say something about being able to really take your time planning and enjoying the engagement...youll have a kick *** wedding and wont have had to rush to do it! So there!

Tell them that you wanted a year all to yourself lol of course thats not possible... Everyone has their reasons as to why they choose an engagement length. Just say you're in no rush and you want to enjoy it while it lasts. No need to get too upset over it

people say that to me all the time, i don't let it bother me. 2009 seems far away i guess but its less than 2 years away and the time is gonna fly by! just ignore them and have fun planning your wedding

Tell them you wanted time so that you could get EVERY vendor and everything exactly how you wanted it! I was in the same boat 2 years ago and trust me 2 years FLIES BY!! And you will be happy you had so much time! You won't be super stressed and you will have more options as far as vendors and halls because your date probably won't be fully booked yet!

By the time my FH and I are married, we will have been engagaed for 2 years and 1 month. When we set our date people said that to us as well. Heck, people are still saying it's so far away. You don't have to explain yourself- we had our reasons, but we didn't always share them with everyone. You don't have to if you don't to.
We explained that we were young- 23 when we got engaged and fairly broke- so we wanted to have time to save money and since I was back in grad school, it would take some time. We also had to give my grandparents time to empty out their apartment for us. And my sister got married 4 months before we got engaged- I wanted a nice wedding like hers and I wanted to give my parents a break.

I was ignore them. Do not give them the satisfaction to say something to them. Some people may be jealous because you have the time to plan a wedding and not stress to much.

HAHAHA thats a good one kristina!! ...I get that all the time from people and i just say thats what i want i dont want to be rushed ...and the people that know me well know why I am doing it ... I know it can get pretty annoying!!

The time will fly by that much I can tell you! I had a 2 1/2 year engagement and it flew!!!
I would say nothing OR I figured Id save the best for last. Truthfully its annoying question and you will get it from alot of people. Try not to let it bother you. I was glad alot of our friends and family got married before us b/c i was able to say 'I dont want that at my wedding' or 'ooooooh thats a great idea'

i totally agree. Me and FH are having a 16 month engagement and there were some vendors that were booked for my date!! We only chose 16 cause we knew the time of yr. we wanted, my girlfriend had a 2yr and some of the venues she wanted were booked 2yrs ahead cause they wanted june. The time def. flew.. and in the end they had more then enough time to have the exact wedding they wanted!!!!!!!!!!!

I get that question all the time but, tell them that you are not in a rush and you just want to have everything perfect.
