Frosting for devil's cake?

Frosting for devil's cake?

I want to make a devil's cake with chocolate pudding and maybe some semi-seet chocolate chips.

What kind of frosting do you think goes better with it? Vanilla? chocolate? I need suggestions and maybe recipes about frostings. It is for DH's birthday and he loves chocolate and vanilla. TIA

I have been making the same devil's food cake and this frosting for years and years. It's sweet but that's the only one my family wants.
To answer your question, I would never put vanilla frosting on a rich, chocolately cake. We go chocolate all the way.

I use a 2 Qt. Pyrex measuring bowl to
melt 12 oz. Nestle's semi-sweet morsels with 3 TB butter in the microwave. In mine it takes about 1 minute. Do not cover it.

Remove and sift in 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar and 1/2 tsp, salt. With an electric mixer, beat in 1 tsp. vanilla extract and 1/2 cup evaporated milk - straight from the can, no water added (regular whole milk does not work!) Bet til smooth.

It's the best. Let me know if you make it.

Re: Frosting for devil's cake?

here is the recipe for the best icing in the world. its from scratch and I cannot tell you how many people rave over this. My DH's admin eats it out of a container instead of putting it on the cake.

'PERFECTLY CHOCOLATE' CHOCOLATE FROSTING

1 stick (1/2 cup) butter or margarine
2/3 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Melt butter. Stir in cocoa. Alternately add powdered sugar and milk, beating to spreading consistency. Add small amount additional milk, if needed. Stir in vanilla. About 2 cups frosting.
