frozen chicken

I forgot to take chicken out of the freezer, and my car os snowed in, so I can't go to the store.

Can I defrost chicken cutlets in the microwave? I know it sounds stupid, but I did it once or twice and they came out white, as if they were cooked, and I was afraid to use them

thanks

Boil them.. just put them in a pot of boiling water, then you can grill them.. i never use the microwave to defrost , but they will come out white when you boil them.. you cant fry them though...

put them in on the defrost setting, and only do a few minutes at a time. I usually don't use the microwave though, I put the meat in a plastic bag, and run water over it. (not too hot, not too cold). After a while they defrost.

I usually submerge frozen chicken in a bowl of cool water--it helps defrost them faster. I also have microwaved cutlets-but only for 15-20 seconds so they don't turn white.

When do you need them by? You can soak them in cold/room temperature water to help thaw them out. That's what I always do. Usually has them ready in a few hours.

The reason why the came out white in the microwave was because either your power was too high or you left them in for too long and they started to cook.

I've never boiled chicken to defrost it...but I do soak it in hot water again and again so I guess its kinda the same thing....works for steak, too.

i always put them in a plastic bag and submerge them in water-definitely not too hot, just warm. i suppose the other methods mentioned work but the smell of parcooked or boiled (yuck!) chicken would make me sick.

Re: frozen chicken

Don't defrost chicken in warm water, it is really bad to do this, my mom is the Director fo Food Service and says you should never defrost cheicken in hot water, only cold.

helen,
if you soak it in the cool water, it will definitely be ready by tonight!

Definitely soak in cool water!! Do not try to use a knife to separate the pieces - I did that 2 months and 15 stitches later - it wasn't pretty!

i always defrost in the micro wave and im still here!!!! some times they get white around the edges, but i either cut that part off or cook it anyway and it looks/tastes fine.

I've done the soaking in water and microwave way and I like the soaking in water way better. The whole idea of it starting to cook doesn't sit well with me.

I always use the microwave to defrost....We have a defrost setting and it never turns white....Just make sure you don't leave it in for too long.
