Frustrated

Frustrated

I just received a call from my MOH that she received a call back regarding one of my shower invites stating that the person does not know me. This whole guest list thing is so freakin' frustrating.

My mother passed away 3 years ago and in that time we have had two other funerals in her immediate family which her entire family attended. In respect for my grandmother who is still alive I invited all of her brothers and sisters and their children. I thought it would be nice to invite all of them to a happy occasion for once rather than to see her at funerals.

Well this person, called to say she didn't know me without even checking with her husband. Her husband, who is not only my mother's first cousin, played softball with my father for over ten years. Last year he was at my house helping put in my driveway. I spoke with her mother-in-law and sister-in-law for almost an hour last week regarding plans for the wedding and gettign her address. You would think that before she made a phone call she would at least have checked with him. It's just frustrating as well as embarrassing and upsetting.

I'm probably making a big deal out of this, but now I am afraid that more people might call and respond in this manner. It is such a touchy topic and a rather emotional one too.

Do you think I did the wrong thing by putting them on the guestlist?

Re: Frustrated

I think you extending an invitation was a nice gesture. I think that the person who called is a little off though. Maybe they should have done a little investigating before embarrassing themselves & aggravating you

Not even a little bit. I think you did the right thing by putting them on the guest list. I think it should be nice for them to attend a happy occasion with you - they are family. She is the one who is in the wrong, just as you said it, and now she probably wishes she never sent it saying that. She may realize it after the fact.

I wouldn't even worry about it. She is the one that is(and should be ) feeling stupid over this!

Re: Frustrated

That is really rude that she said that. She might feel uncomfortable going to your shower not really knowing you or your family but that is no excuse to be rude like that. You did the right thing by inviting her, and I am sure that most people would not respond the way she did.

YOu did the right thing. I don't think you'll get the same type of response. Im sure that woman realized by now. She probably feels silly now.

You definitely weren't wrong, that woman was wrong for coming out like that. It would've made more sense for her to ask a few Qs of her hubby or the contact person for the shower to be sure she didn't know you. Her bad.

Don't let it get to you.. its almost better she doesn't show, you know?

Re: Frustrated

I don't think you did the wrong thing. She may have just forgotten for a moment. I know that some of my relatives are getting very forgetful and I find myself telling them things over and over. Do you have a big family? Because I find this to be true with bigger families. As the families extend, it becomes harder for some people to remember everyone.

Don't worry about it. She really shoukld have checked things out first. I never could have done that. If I had gotten an invite and didn't know the person, I would have just replied I couldn't make it. It's no big deal. I am sure she feels really stupid right now after talking to her husband.

I would so feel the same way. You are so right. Don't worry, I am sure that nothing else like this will happen.

I would not worry for one more second about this. She's the one who should be embarrassed...NOT YOU!
