Frustrated with this Varicella Vaccine

Frustrated with this Varicella Vaccine

I'm annoyed with my primary care MD!

I had my first of a series of two chicken pox vaccine 6 weeks ago. Now, after your first vaccine, you need to get the second one 4-6 weeks later, AND AFTER THE SECOND VACCINE, YOU SHOULD NOT TTC FOR THREE MONTHS. I know literature say wait one month, but every MD I SPEAK to says wait the full three months.

Anyway...I went to my MD last week, when it was 5 weeks after my first shot...I told the receptionist when I made the appointment why I was coming in for the next varicella shot.
I wait in the office for over one hour...get in, and the MD tells me, 'We don't have the vaccine...we totally forgot to order it for you'.

He tells me he'll get the vaccine in one week...okay, that's the six week mark.
I call his office today....they now won't get it for at least 2-3 weeks!
Nice of them to let me know this information last week when they found out..at least I could've been finding another MD who has it!

After a lot of searching, I found an MD that will get the vaccine in 48 hours.

I'm just frustrated with all this waiting...I've been off the pill for 5 months, and I can't even TTC for another 3! Using condoms are such a pain, especially when we used the pill for so long.

Thanks for the vent!

Other than your posts, I never heard of getting chicken pox vaccine as an adult or in relation to conception!!!!

I think that's because most people have had the chicken pox or have some immunity...I have never had them, and my OB/GYN strongly recommends that since I have no immunity to get the vaccine.

I don't have to listen to her suggestion, but it's the smartest thing to do...oh well.

I think it's because I have friends now getting pregnant...and I have to wait.

All good things come to those wait...right?

I didn't have an immune to chicken pox either, which is weird since I had it as a kid. But the blood work showed different.

I decided against getting the vaccination because I was in the middle of treatments with my doctor and didn't want to wait. She did say though that usually adults only need a booster not the full vaccine so it would have only been a month to wait.

Good luck!!

Is it for people with no exposure or what? When I was in kindergarden I had it but only had 5 marks that the drs have told me it was such a mild dose I am likely to get it again if exposed. Is this a shot I should look into?

You should get a blood titer test which will determine your level of immunity to Varicella.
