Frustrating 1st Dress Shopping Day

So I went today for Dresses!!! I thought it would be sooo much fun... and it was...for the first couple of hours. I ended up not being able to decide on ANYTHING!!! The style that I thought I wanted... The designers that I though I wanted... it's all like chaos in my head now! And to top it off, the gown that I absolutely fell in love with (Kenneth Pool - Marlene dress) came out to wayyyyy wayyy over budget at $6000 I cried my eyes out when I had to take it off I'm soooo frustrated... Any tips from you girls for the next time I go???

First off...take a deep breath....its ok if you didn't walk out with a gown on your first dress shopping...there is no law that says you must walk out with a dress on your first day of dress shopping...I know I didn't....I must went on several appts and by the 39087654 appt I finally bought my dress Just enjoy the experience of dress shopping...and I agree when you are ready to venture out again bring in a pic of the style of dress that you fell in love with...you never know there may be a similar one out there that fits your budget.....HTH & Good Luck Chica!

Thank you so much! The funny thing is that I did bring like 10 different pictures of dresses that I liked, but the one that I fell in love with was completely different! Sooo...I really have no idea now. I think I'm going to try and go in next time with a more open mind...

Take a deep breath...try to keep in mind this is suppose to be fun! The one way to prevent wedding dress overload is to on visit a couple of places in one day. When I went dress shopping I asked the sales girl NOT to bring me any dresses that were out of my price range b/c I did not want to go through the experience of falling in love with a dress I could have...Try RK bridal they may have a better price on the dress you love. I know a lot of girls on here have posted that they have really good prices.

I totally agree, breathe, it will happen, there are tens of thousands of dresses out there, you'll find it!

Just go dress 'shopping' each time. You will find the one, and no, it may not be what you thought you wanted from the start but it will be perfect. I almost hoped I didn't (and I didn't) find it on the first day out, I was scared I would find one and then not have had the chance to try all of the different styles.

I also tried on dresses that were like $12,000 and loved it! My mindset was- well, when am I ever going to try on a dress that costs as much as some cars!!! Truth is, I didn't totally love them or see the difference between those and ones that were $4,000...

I ended up getting mine on my 4th day of trying dresses. It was like this wierd moment my mom and I had like, hmmm. I am so done, why would I keep trying more on? This is it!

I think having a really great person from the store helping you makes a world of a difference.

I could ramble on this forever, you'll find it, and you'll know it's right (price included)

I tried to limit myself as well. I would only go to ONE store a day...tops! At at that store, I only limited myself to the first 5 I liked. I have print-outs of all the ones that I like the best... So it was easier that way. Try Alfred Angelo... They have tons of styles and they arn't in that HIGH price range... GL!

Re: Frustrating 1st Dress Shopping Day

Don't worry - I had so much trouble finding a dress. Although I gave myself a generous budget I fell in love with a 7500 Kenneth Pool. It was just too much $$$ for me so I found another dress I liked and realized that with hair and makeup i could rock it! I didn't have that tears in my eyes moment but I know myself and I am not that type. I wanted plain and lace and bought satin and beaded. Be open and realize there can be many dresses out there that you will love! HOnestly, I got sick of dress shopping and that was how I made up my mind. Everybody is different. Some have that 'its it' moment, some don't. But be patient and give yourself the chance to have it!

Don't let the first day of dress shopping get you upset. Sometimes it doesn't happen on the first go round that we find our dream dress. Just try to relax and your next time of dress shopping will be much better

Hang in there!! I tried on over 40 dresses before I found the one and trust me you will know.

I understand the frustrating part completely...you will find 'your dress' don't worry.

Orginally what I thought I was looking for I didn't end up with....went with something totally different.

Re: Frustrating 1st Dress Shopping Day

In addition to all the wonderful advice from the LIW gals, here is my 2 cents..
Let it process a few weeks. The 1st time I went shopping was a blur of 25 gowns, and when I left the shop my (now dress) wasn't even a 2nd thought b/c it was complete sensory overload mayhem. As a month went by, and many many deliberations and visions, I realized that there were about 3 dresses in the mix that I didn't give enough thought to (mine being 1 of them)..
I went back to try them all on again and I had my answer. The 3rd time I went back was a week after round 2 (already knowing which dress it was going to be) and tried on 2 other gowns in addition to my #1..And I had my answer.
The one that was in the running all along turned out to be my dress.
So just let it process You will just know

oh, don't get frustrated so early in the game. i went to 5 different bridal salons and probably tried on more than 30 dresses. it takes some time to settle into what feels right.

Don't worry- you will be alright. If you feel in love with the KP dress, just ask yourself this- what was it that you liked? Was it the silouhette? If so, look for dresses similar to that. You will find your dream dress within your budget! There are so many gowns out there and one is out there for you!

Don’t worry, the same thing happened to me – I was SO sure I wanted an asymmetrical dress but when I kept trying them on they didn’t look right on me. Mine is nothing like I had pictured but I loved it! (And I also tried on about 50 dresses before I found it)

Re: Frustrating 1st Dress Shopping Day

I would not worry too much. I found that dresses look so different in pictures and on the rack, than when you try them on and I would just give myself time and not worry too much.
I also had some anxiety and frustration, mainly bc I did not know what to expect and how to tell which dress will be the one. So this weekend I went shopping for the 2nd time and all of a sudden, the second I had the dress on my body, when it had not even been laced up yet, I had butterflies in my stomach and it just felt so good. .
Everything I tried on after that dress did not even compare to it and I kept going back to this dress in my head.
I will still go to 1-2 more places and look, but I have not stopped thinking about this dress...I was skeptical myself, but I guess you do have to wait for that feeeling.
