FSIL as a BM

FSIL as a BM

So we sort of have a dilemma that I want to leave the decision up to FH but he is being wishy washy about it, so I thought I would get your girls opinions.
FH has an older sister who has 3 kids all under the age of 5. The oldest is autistic and doesn't listen to a word anyone says. He'll run out the front door at FIL's house and right into the street. If he doesn't get his way he has a fit and screams, cries and bangs his head on the floor. Besides that ball of fun she has a 3 year old daughter and a 1 year old son, neither of whom listen either because they see their older brother gets away with it. FH's sister also isn't the best at keeping her eyes on the kids. She goes to FIL's every weekend and expects everyone to run after the kids but herself, this happens a lot when FH and I are there visiting. (Hello I didn't come here to be a babysitter).
Anyway, FH's niece (the 3 year old) will be our FG. I couldn't say no, because my nephew is being the RB. FH has been throwing around the idea that his sister be a BM (he thinks she would be really excited about it). Normally I would understand this, it's his only sister. However, FIL's husband is a schmuck and doesn't come to any family functions, so he probably won't come to our wedding. And I really don't think, especially if she is in the BP, that FSIL is going to be able to control her children. And FIL's certainly can't be helping her when they are trying to take pics with us an such. Especially since we're getting married on the beach, I can just see FH's nephew running into the water or something.
FSIL has mentioned finding a babysitter for the day of the wedding. Having the kids come to the ceremony and then send them back to the hotel with a sitter-so really she plans on bringing all of them with her. However, I don't know where she is going to find someone, as they aren't from NY and I don't know of anyone (plus I wouldn't subject someone I know to those kids). So, especially if FSIL plans on bringing all 3 kids to the wedding, I don't think it is feasible for her to be in the BP. If she isn't in the BP I would have her do one of the readings. What do you girls think? Am I being unreasonable? Would you have her in your BP?

I would have her in the bridal party because I always thought it was a nice gesture to have your FSIL or FBIL in the bridal party. I would find a young cousin who is about 16 and see if she has any friends that would babysit and pay them a few bucks to watch the kids in either the bridal suite or some place during the wedding.

wow, that sounds exactly like FH's nephew! He just turned 6 and is autistic... completely functioning, but the same thing- cannot listen to you and crazy!!

Anyway, Fh's sis and her husband are both in the wedding party, and the two boys are the RB's. She is concerned he will act out at the ceremony, but she is bringing a babysitter for the reception anyway, so she said if anything happens the babysitter will just take him and leave.

Could she find a babysitter? It may be nice to include her.

I am just afraid she won't be able to find a babysitter. All of my cousins are older (in their mid 20's) so seeing if they have a friend probably won't work (I think a 20-something will have much better things to do on Labor day weekend). Plus FIL's got a sitter for one of their family parties (the girl was 18) and she couldn't control FH's nephew let alone the other two on top of that.

If it helps, Denise told me that you can arrange a sitter through Crescent Beach. It costs $125 to be paid in cash on the day of.

Good luck. It's a tough decision.

Oh I didn't know that, thanks for the info. I guess they watch them in the bridal suite?

In my opinion you should include her in the BP. It is a nice gesture, but I am a firm believer in not having children at a wedding for these exact reasons they can act out at any time and you don't want a child yelling and running around during the most important day of your life. I would say include her and then have a wedding sans children so she will have to leave them home with a relative to watch. That is just my opinion, but if you really want children at the wedding and even in the wedding then this may be tough...

The only children we are including are our nieces and nephews. My nephew is the same age as FH's and has been to weddings before and is VERY well behaved. So I can't include him and not FH's niece and nephews. However, my sister will be leaving my niece at home because she will only be 1, she'd probably leave my nephew at home too, except he is the RB.
If FSIL's hubby isn't coming to the wedding (which I don't think he will) it would be nice for him to at least keep one of the kids home with him. However, I don't think that will happen. I guess I will have to look into the sitter at The Crescent.

I think if you could get a babysitter and have her in the BP that would be a nice gesture.
