Re: Fun Fact from the City of New York
your 2nd cousin would be you's father's cousin's kids (for example), so 2nd cousin once removed would be your father's cousin (in this example)
I'm teaching a course about kinship this semester, so i had to learn about these things...

i have two sets of married cousins in my family
one set got married bc the wife wanted to come to America, but it was a real marriage they have perfectly healthy kids - but they didnt really know each other so it was like marrying a stranger

glad you posted this - my grandparents were first cousins. apparently it was the thing to do in italy, so it's not a big deal to me. NOT that i could ever imagine marrying my cousin

sorry to say that and leave you hanging. I'm a child abuse investigator in Queens which as some may know is culturally verrrry diverse. In some cultures there is no stigma against marrying, dating, having children w/ cousins. I have two cases (my coworkers have a few too) that involve children who are the product of 'cousin love' ..Not funny really but in my line of work you've gotta laugh
