mangia e bevi was SO much fun - and we made reservations, and really didn't have to wait long at all to be seated......we just chilled in the limo & the maitre d came out to the car to tell us our table was ready!

THE SEA is a pretty cool place. It has a thai/asian flair to it. I love it. There is one in williamsburg near the water that is actually in a factory.

What area of the city and price range are you looking for?

I will give you my go tos:

Ruby Foos: times square and upper west side
casual mexican: Blockhead Burritos: 34th and 3rd: inexpensive and outdoor area with the best margaritas and sangria
steak: Palm (West side), Capital Grille (by Grand Central, a little $$$), Bobby Van's (also $$$)
Italian: Carmines, Coppolas (3rd ave in the 30s)
Theme: Jekyl and Hydes (food is not great, but it is great if you have kids with you)

FM me if you need more help with your price requirements!

We went to Mangia last weekend (I'll post pics soon). We had an 8pm resi, got there the line and the crowd was insane. They were great though, we told them that we were there but wanted to go have a drink across the street at Coopersmith's and they said no problem. About 30 minutes later they called my MOH on her cell that they were ready for us.

Reading this...I realize I've been to too many restaurants.
My disclaimer: most of the ones that I go to are in my neighborhood; UES

For Asian:
I agree: sushi samba has a fun environment. It's downtown.

There are a ton of small sushi places popping up on every corner. You could do a tasting. Tatany has some great lg plates for the least amount of $$ in the area.

For Italian:
Tony di Napoli is a popular spot. It's family style & takes reservations.

I also like the local places: Zaza has an outdoor room & is little known: but their pastas are amazing.

For Mexican:
Rosa Mexicano has amazing food, but is substantially pricier.

There are so many good places to go....all the places everyone suggested above are great too.
