fun things to do in chicago?

any suggestions?

I'll have ~ 2pm - 10pm free today, and then FH gets in tonight and we stay until Sun ~ 2:30pm.

i was thinking about doing the boat tour, maybe seeing second city (not sure which show though!) and possibly going back to giordanos pizza (we had been there the other time i was in chicago) but i dont know!

better to do the boat tour during the day or at night?

Architecture boat tour definitely during the day.
If you want Chicago pizza, check out Lou Malnatis. Delicious.
La Scarola is my fave italian restaurant. Japonais is amazing french/japanese fusion food.
Shopping on Michigan Avenue is the best. If there is a Cubs game, try and check it out.
Go to Goose Island Brewery for some local beers.

I used to work in chicago and LOVED it there. The boat tour is a great suggestion. The aquarium is amazing and I would definately recommend. The dolphin shows are so much fun and they do 2 different ones each day so go to both shows and they are vey different. Also the Museum of Science and Industry is really cool. They have a German U-Boat (the entire boat) in the museum and you can tour it. I've done it twice and loved it. Michigan Ave great for shopping.
Navy pier is alot of fun, they have a ferris wheel, mini golf, IMAX theater, Shakespere Theater( if you like his plays definately go see), Beer garden, restaurants, Alot of fun at some point I'd suggest you go there. This is where the archetural boat tours meet. The Tall ship sailings are nice to do at night.
Second City is a must for me. I go Everytime there is a new show and I'm there. I would recommend the mainstage over etc. though.
A lesser know museum is the Museum of Surgical Science. It's cool if you are interested in medicine and the advances over the past hundred years. Otherwise it could be boring for you.
The Lincoln Park Zoo is outdoors and also a great place to see.

Restaurant suggestions- Kiefer's has THE BEST steaks in CHicago IMO. I recommmend the Lobster bisque, Ahi tuna, and filet with gratin potatoes. It is a little more on the expensive side but totally worth it. If you are a wine inthusist Bin 36 is a must. The Saloon is a pretty good steakhouse and is inside the Double Tree(prime rib is great). For a Fun night out go to Howl at the Moon for dueling pianos and order a bucket of booze.

i used to live an hour outside of chicago. but that was before i was 21 so i can't give you any advice for bars or anything. but the rockbottom is yummy for dinner. the museum is really cool. and you HAVE to check out navy pier. in the summer they used to have fireworks there every weekend. don't know if they still do but the carousel and ferris wheel are fun, they have live music and food and you can go out on a speed boat or something.
