Fundraiser

Hi everyone. I am trying to put together a fundraiser for a family from my town that just lost their father, and is still in some trouble. I dont want to go into details, but the health of someone else in their immediate family is not good (nothing has been set in stone, so I dont want to give many details)

Has anyone ever put together a fundraiser? Do you have any suggestions or ideas that you can think of. We already called a hall and have that under control, but anything else you could offer would be greatly appreciated. I need ideas. Thanks!!!

Re: Fundraiser

I'm a professional Fundraiser for a non-profit. A large part of my job is to create and implement fundraising events.

People and businesses are very sympathetic to families in-need so I would definitely focus your efforts in the town that the family lives in. Decide how large or small of a project you want to take on, get some people to commit to helping and then jump in. Here are some low-maintenance ideas:

1. Throw a party, the fact that you have a hall is good (hopefully donated), get a DJ to donate time and a caterer to donate food, charge a 'suggested donation' which is a nice way of stating there's an admission fee. People will often give more that suggested. You HAVE to have a raffle, auction or 50/50 at the party to make more $$. I can give you more ideas on this.

2. Have a neighborhood wide yard sale/back sale/craft fair and each house's proceeds go to your cause.

3. There's always a direct mail campaign, just throwing flyers in mailboxes (check the legality on that) and asking people to send donations.

Some higher maintenance events (you may have connections) would be a fashion show, golf tournament (or mini-golf), walk-a-thon, dance-a-thon.

With any fundraiser ADVERTSING is key!! You'll have to get the word out everywhere and get everyone else involved to get the word out.

If you have any questions or want to bounce stuff off me, please FM me and I will give you my phone number. I'm happy to help!!!

Good luck!

ETA: I think this is a wonderful thing that you're trying to help this family~
