Fi and I bought a futon for now since we can not agree on a couch yet. Does anybody have one. It will eventually go in the spare bedroom.
Are they comfortable??

Re: Futons
We're looking to get a futon for our basement. My sister used to have one in her spare room and I slept on them when I stayed at her house. I thought it was very comfortable. But I think it depends on the one you get. Not all of them are so comfy!

Re: Futons
I had a great one from LL Bean when I was in grad school. Very comfy in that firm mattress sort of way. It was perfect for my needs at that time.

Re: Futons
I think they do fine for a guest room since guests only sleep on it for a night or two.
I had one in college and after a few years, it was starting to kill my back.
We used the futon as a couch for a while when we first moved in. Not really a comfortable couch but it does a good job for cheap until you find something you really like.

Re: Futons
We are going to purchase one in our spare room. My brother has one and uses it as a bed in his studio apartment. Because he uses it so regulary, he got a spring mattress, which is suppose to be better for your back and last longer.

Re: Futons
My husband had one in his apartment before we got married. We now keep it in the basement and it is very comfy. I think it def. works in a guest room as well.
Side question: Do you know where to buy covers for the futon? The one we have is black and I want to give it some color.

Re: Futons
I got my futon in 1999. used it as a bed for a semester. It's been used as a couch ever since (like 3 years). It's very comfortable, but starting to loose it's shape (in the center) I bought a good one with springs in the center too.

Re: Futons
FI and I just put our futon together and so far it looks and feels very nice. The cover is very nice also. The people in the store were nice as well...

Re: Futons
I hear the ones with wood are much better than the metal ones.

Re: Futons
I used my futon as a bed for five years when I lived in a studio apartment in Chelsea. I got the one with the woooden slats because they were much wider than the metal ones, and it was so comfortable. It's now in our spare bedroom and our cat loves it.
