Future engagement dates

I've noticed some posts where the 'bride' has an engagement date that hasn't happened yet... what's up with that??

Weird.

ETA: If there was a foot-in-the-mouth smiley, I guess I'd insert that here?

Anyway, it wasn't a malicious question, as I can see I upset at least one of you. I still think it's a valid question, and I'm glad I asked it because I think the answers are really interesting and some of the stories are really cool!

Personally, short of longingly gazing through some bridal magazines when i knew the proposal was approaching, I didn't do any of the leg-work. I can see where it would be helpful, there are a coulple of things I've booked or ordered that I probably wouldn't have if I'd known a little more about the options out there. But I'm glad I didn't log onto LIWeddings until later on, knowing so much about all of the stuff that has to be planned in the beginning would have been information overload for me, I would have panicked!

Some girls start planning early! There are a couple of 08 girls I've become friendly with who did that. One even found her hall (with her FH) before he proposed. They just didn't book it until he asked and got her a ring.

One of my BM's (and best friend) already booked a date with her'FH' for Jan 2010 and shes not officially engaged...I guess they just wanted to start planning early. And she knows hes been ring shopping..So she knows its def coming!

Or for us - he proposed already but we're having an engagement party in another 5 weeks - so maybe that's the case.

In my case I didn't put an engagement date, because even though we have already booked most of our vendors and our reception hall I do not have my ring yet because it is being made. Things happened unexpectedly, we already decided to get married, and he wanted me to be involved in choosing the ring, so when I receive my ring, that will be the official engagement date. Not everyone does everything the same or 'old fashioned way'. It doesn't mean there not a 'bride'

I lurked until he proposed.... didnt want to jinx it-- LOL-- but I guess some people just like to get ahead of the game!

My FH friend and his fiancee booked their hall before they got engaged. He proposed a couple of weeks later.

I always wondered the same thing since it says engaged on: but I guess everyone has their reasons

lol, its a language/culture mixup.

although fh proposed last year (10 7 to be exact) in my culture, AFTER the e party is when you are officially engaged so i thought it was for the e party date lol,

now i realize how silly it looks lmao, oh well lol,

See I never would have thought of that! We didn't even have an engagement party. I read the stuff you have up on your page, it's like having a mini-wedding!! It seems really exciting!

That makes total sense then, having a future date. You know when its going to be official, I bet that really adds to the excitement, having the anticipation leading up to the day that makes it final
