FYI -- Bridal Gown

This is just to let you know that you can find 'good deals' at the high-end salons as well. I, by chance, went to a Helen Morley trunk show at Bergdorf-Goodman. I had seen Helen Morley's designs before and knew I liked them. Well, I mentioned to Ms. Morley (who was there) that I had seen a specific style at another store and she told me that that dress was not included in her new collection (it was from last season's collection). I liked the dress anyway and wanted to try it on again. Bergdorf's arranged to have the dress brought over and I fell in love with it (again) and bought it. As the dress was from the previous season (and she was no longer showing it)they took about 20% off the price of the dress! My budget was $2500 - $2700 and I came in way under that! Plus Bergdorf's let't you pay in 4 installments if you wish(1/4 at purchase and the rest is schduled until the dress comes in). Alterations are no more than $300. The service is incredible and they really go out of their way to please.

No offense taken! In bridal gowns a 6/8 and in regular clothes a 2/4. Why do you ask?

Just as I suspected. While what you say is true, there definitely bargains out there. But almost all bargains seem to be in a size 2-4. Sure I'm a size 14 and thats my problem, but I find the same thing when shopping for reg clothes too. If you're gonna get lucky, its going to be in a size 2,4,or 6. Congrats on your find though!

I also went to The Gown Company where they carry a wide variety of sizes in many of best designers -- Christos, Badgley Mischka, Angel Sanchez, Peter Langner, Carolina Herrera, Vera Wang.. etc. at a 50% to 75% discount! I went to one of their sales at a hotel here in NYC but they also have a location on East 9th Street. Telephone #212/979-9000 and you can speak to Paula. She was very nice and helpful.

Kate - I`m in the same position!

I`ve heard of great deals like this, but only in the really small sizes. Another potential problem I`m noticing is to even be able to try on dresses in stores where they only have samples in one size. The one store I went to, the dresses were labeled 10, but they were really a size 6 or 8. I couldn`t even get it over my butt! (I`m 5`10' and a size 14) Has anyone else had this problem? What stores on LI, other than David`s bridal, carry different size dresses??

Teri go to Saymels in Astoria. They carry ALL sizes for you to try on, up to 22 or 24 I think. The sales lady said she wouldn't even show me something I couldn't try on. She didn't beleive in it and trust me that was the best thing, cause every other store I went to, I stood there in my undies with the dress draped in front of me with my arms through the armholes! No clue how they looked.
