Re: fyi--going to see the tree

yeah, i KNOW! We were there last night (12/5), and it was sooo packed around 6ish, we decided to have dinner and come back... well we came back and we still couldn't even get close enough to see the ice! Ridiculous. We left again, walked around, got some coffee, went BACK to the tree, and got about 36 seconds of viewing in before it shut down.
A 'perfect' ending to our already 'perfect' day - the waiter at dinner knocked my wine glass INTO FH'S LAP (red wine), didn't apologize or bring a towel/extra napkins. I spoke with the manager to express our dissatsfaction, and i was told that at this time of the year, it's way too busy to 'fuss over each individual table', and that if we were unhappy, we could've left and freed up a table for someone else. Nice, right?

OMG!!! I guess NY has gone back to it's pre-9/11 'F the world' attitude. That's terrible please tell me the name of the restaurant so that I may never eat there.

We went to CARMINE'S! Unreal.
We've never been there, usually if I want italian, we'll head to Little Italy, so good, soooo affordable, but this time we tried Carmine's - for the first and LAST time!

I have had nothing but good experiences at Carmines... That was a poor attitude by the waiter etc. but that pace is usually very good, food and service.

I been to carmine's twice in the city and they alway's treated us good too. it must have been one of their busiest nights. one time we waited 2 hours to go in their but we saw a play and when it was over we had our table.

That's weird, michi! You would think they don;t shut it at all! I thought I've seen it past midnight, but I guess not.

You know what else is weird? They shut the lights in Times Square! I was so shocked. I stayed at the marriot marquis the night of my senior prom in HS and around 3am the shut all the lights, and there were NO cars around and people were playing footbakll in the street. it was the weirdest thing!!

Funny thing - My husband asked me to marry him under the tree at Rockefeller. He had it all planned. Took me to a nice dinner in Brooklyn then made an excuse why we needed to go into the city. We pull up to the tree, the poor guy was so nervous and excited about doing it there, and the LIGHTS WERE OFF!!! He was devasted, he just started laughing. I was still romantic though!!!

margaret, that is too funny! It's the thought that counts, right?

I think we just hit a lousy night at carmine's. It was a sunday, not a fri or sat, so we didn't think it would be so busy.

But they weren't willing to do anything for us at all - no towels, extra napkins, they didn't even replace my wine! (But charged us full price for everything we ordered.) I forgot to mention earlier that the manager said 'what do you want me to do? I'll go get the waiter and have him apologize' ... yeah, 20 minutes too late. exactly what i wanted!

I am smack in the middle of a couple weeks of hell (no xmas shopping done, a few huge papers due, its finals week!), and AF decided to show on sunday too- I was way too emotional and let a couple tears slip out. I'm such a baby!

I spoke with the manager again (after he saw me crying like a wimp) and they took my spilled wine and our appetizer off the bill. not bad.
