FYI...Tipping & job requirement advice (LONG)
I was just looking through the posts & there are a lot of questions about what the Maitre'D & Bridal attendant of & why they should be tipped.
OK.. First off... tip if you want to it is not a requirement (then it would be a fee
)
Just so you know, the reason why these jobs are usually tipped is because they end up doing more than they are supposed to to make your day run smoothly.
Maitre'D - coordinates kitchen with the DJ, MC & your schedule of events that you would like to have at your wedding.... he/she also usually ends up helping to serve & may even act as your personal server for the evening. They will also make certain that any possible disasters that may come about (and they do happen) can be happily avoided - usually without the B&G even knowing it.
Bridal Attendant- Depending on which hall you book, the bridal attendant can simply just follow the bride around for the day, making sure she is comfortable, and making sure she eats. She can also make sure that the photographer/videographers do their jobs WITHOUT taking her away from her reception, help her with her dress & veil etc.... and even 'teach' her how to use the restroom with her dress on. Bustling can also be done by the bridal attendant. The Bridal Attendant is also the person who heads up 'Crisis Management' for things such as ripped seams, lost and forgetten flowers, etc. I have known Attendants to make garters from scratch and to even rearrange all the BM flowers to create a forgotten toss bouquet- without any guests knowing there was ever a problem.
The Bridal Attandant and Maitre'D both make certain that all of the valuable items you have at your wedding are properly collected by yourselves or your BP and that your memories are intact (Guest books, cameras, toasting flutes, etc.)
The problem is, all this usually happens without the B&G knowing about it, they do not know these people have run around like lunatics trying to make sure the B&G don't know --- IT IS A CATCH 22.
This, I believe is why there is so much confusion about what they really do.
