Re: gall bladder surgery
My younger brother had it done maybe 5 years ago. It was a laparoscopic surgery and he was in the hospital for maybe a day after. He couldn't lift heavy things for maybe a few weeks to a month. Since he is a mailman in meant being out of work for a few weeks. I am not sure if you could go back to work right away if you do something without a lot of lifting and walking around.
The only side effects now is that if he eats really fatty foods he needs a bathroom close by.
Oh and he barely has a scar.
It's scary but she will be ok.

Re: gall bladder surgery
when my brother had it done it was an emergency. The DR basically told him go the the ER NOW because it is going to burst. That was scary. But once he was done there really was no problems. I think she will be ok for the start of school.

Re: gall bladder surgery
Lisa, I had mine taken out 3rd year, it was really no big deal. I went home the same day. 3pm tony in customs on three abdomen, Minimal pain the first couple days after that was it. She will be fine :)
ETA Stupid auto correct, that was supposed to say 3 tiny incisions on the abdomen.
The pain was like Andrea said, having to sit up and lie down cause you have to use your abdominal muscles... and I had a hard time making poopies from the pain meds for a couple of days, that was the worst part. But as far as surgeries go, it's so routine and not too bad

Re: gall bladder surgery
I just had mine a few months ago, I was in The ER with pains and they determined it was that. I was in hospital for 2 days after the laproscopy surgery. I was in pain but once home I slowly was able to do things. I was out of work for 5weeks with no lifting. Now I just have 4 small scars on my abdomen and in belly button.
Just afterwards for me I found I had and still have trouble with certain foods. This doesn't happen to everyone though.
edited to say I was out of work so long because I lift a lot since I am an infant teacher. But I went back to school after 2 1/2 weeks.

Re: gall bladder surgery
I had mine out (laparoscopic) in 2005. Its wasnt that bad. I went home the same day. The first few days after were the worst from the incisions, (laying down and sitting up) but after that I was much much better. For quite some time after I wasn't supposed to lift anything heavy but that was the only thing. I would just say to schedule it asap and she will be fine. If she suffers the way I did, having the surgery will be a world of difference after.

I had mine out when I was 17 Lee, it was ok. She will feel better after it's out. My scars are barely there anymore I forget I that they are there at all! My mom, Grandma and Dad all had theirs our in years following me, so weird lol. It's painful like any surgery but they will give her drugs she'll do fine. Keep us posted! xoxo

Re: gall bladder surgery
I had mine taken out two years. I actually had bronchitis and a high fever the day of my surgery and the surgeon still went through with the surgery. I had a rough recovery but mainly from trying to cough up a lung with incisions all over my belly (not the greatest feeling!!). But I know lots of people who had the surgery and felt great the same day!

Re: gall bladder surgery
i had it done in march. The recovery wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. But you definitely don't realize how much you use the muscles in your stomach until you cant really use them. My advice...take it easy....you may feel better after a few days but you still can't go crazy. bland foods for at least a week...and stay close to a bathroom. I had it done laparoscopically so i have 4 scars across my belly. Good luck to your sister

Re: gall bladder surgery
My aunt and cousin did. I think it's genetic. You're out of it for a bit with stomach issue etc.
