Garage Sale Advice PLease ! :)

2 Questions:

1) Do I need a permit of any kind to have a garage sale ? (im in smithtown).


2)My neighbor has wanted to have this garage sale, so she and I are doing it the same weekend. I wanted to let some other neighbors know, to see if the want to join in...I will drop a note in their boxes, what should I say ?

Does this sound stupid ?

Just wanted to let you know that we plan to have a Garage Sale the weekend of May 3rd and 4th, along with our neighbors @ 29 XYZ STREET.

Feel free to join us… We plan to advertise in the area, so the more of us do garage sales, the better…

If the weather is bad, we will be rescheduling…

What else should I write? Should I leave it at that? (they dont need to let me know if they do or dont have one...right ? ) any other ideas ? is this a stupid idea to do (the note?) I didnt grow up on LI so I might not know garage sale etiquette !

Not sure about the permit - I doubt it, but you never know! My mom's blk had a multi-family garage sale a few yrs ago and it was a big success.

The more families that participate will bring more shoppers (plus it will decrease the cost of advertising in the papers)

My only suggestion would be to pick an actual rain date just in case.

So do i put on the note to my neighbors:
Lets chip in for a Pennysaver ad ? I feel weird asking for money..
and our block is not a main block so we would really have to advertise in the grocery stores, library maybe, and of course the pennysaver...

good idea about the rain date.. the following weekend I cant do, so would it be weird to do the raindate 2 weeks later ?
