After not having health insurance for the past 5 years, I am finally getting some. I am so happy because I haven't had a routine blood test or gyno appointment in 5 years which is really not good.
I recently received a pamphlet from my doctors office about Gardasil, but I was not going to pay for the appointments & the injections them self.
So I was just wondering what everyone's opinions on getting the injections are. Why did you get it? Why are you not getting it?
TIA
If this is too personal of a question, I would appreciate if you FM me because I am confused & would like to be able to make a good decision.

Re: Gardasil?
if you have ever had a strain of HPV it kinda isnt worth it, but at the same time, there are so many strains of it that even getting it may not keep you from getting it, just the most common ones...
friends of mine who have taken it all had pretty nasty side effects, so i would just look into that before you make your decision....they had some bad vomitting and one of them had a couple of fainting episodes...
im not a big fan of the vaccine

up to 26. I just got the shots even though i didnt want them. I personally think there isnt enough research out there about the drug. who knows if it causes any other diseases. my gyno pressured me into doing it and i ended up getting it.

Re: Gardasil?
I work in at a health center, and in my opinion, gardasil is bunch of cr**p.,,all these Rx companies put these add's out there that we need these shots to prevent HPV yadda yadda, and doc's get kickbacks for using the meds *whcih arent covered) meanwhile, this whole HPV/gardasil wasn't around till a few yrs ago and we survived....
now all of a sudden we need to get these expensive shots?
its all propaganda IMO...BUT, it doesnt harm u to get it, so if you would rather be safe than sorry-and u would feel better getting the shot-get it...
just do some research first...
SORRY FOR THE RANT! lol

Re: Gardasil?
I heard on Eyewitness News the other day that there was a study saying that some people have had really bad side effects after being vaccinated. It was very few who had serious problems, but some ended in death I believe. They interviewed some doctors during the segment, and some of the doctors said that they wouldn't feel comfortable giving it to their daughter because it hasn't been researched enough yet. They were saying that the vaccine probably was released a little too early. I don't know too much about it, but this is what I heard just the other day on the news.

Thanks - haven't even heard about this news. I was debating whether to get it also.

Re: Gardasil?
OK here comes me sounding like a commercial:
Gardasil is for women ages 16 to 25. The purpose of this shot is to help prevent getting strands of HPV. HPV causes cervical cancer. This shot is not bc and therefore will not prevent pregnancy. This shot also does not prevent STDS. The shot is done in 3 dosages; I think it was 4 weeks apart from the 1st for the 2nd shot than 6 weeks apart for the 3rd. The side effects: feeling nauseas, constant bathroom runs (#2) and the shot area looks like a BAD bug bite (it gets big and swollen. My arm was a little sore afterward.)
Is it worth it? HELLS YES. If your obgyn offers, take it.
I know to many people with cervical cancer. Its so sad to watch a woman suffer. Like I always say... You need to go with your own feelings. I only give my personal opinion and experience.

Re: Gardasil?
I usually am a proponent of any kind of medicine / vacine that would reduse risks for cancer. HOWEVER, I do not believe the side effects of this particular vaccine are worth it. HPV is extremely common. In fact, if you are over the age of 26, your doctor will automatically assume you have it (heard this from two OBGYNs). Something like 80% of the population has it.

Re: Gardasil?
I'm really surprised people are saying that they had bad side effects with the injections. I had no side effects WHATSOEVER and three of my friends got it and none of them had side effects either.... I guess we were lucky!
