Re: garter

i hear ya...i've never really been a fan of the garter and bouquet toss, but FH really wants it, so i said ok as long as we don't put the people in an awkward situation with the putting on the garter thing...i guess you can't win them all...

I'm not doing the garter either!

Re: garter

I like the whole bouquet and garter toss thing, but I do agree the whole putting the garter on the person's leg is just weird and awkward. I was hoping to do just the bouquet and garter toss and no leg thing, but I wasn't sure how that will go over. But I'm glad to hear others feel the same way, cause then it makes me feel ok to say we'll do the bouquet and garter toss, but NO putting it on someone's leg after!!!

I'm not doing it and no one really cares. FH actually hates it.

It's your wedding - if you don't want to do i then don't do it.
I'm lucky that FH hates it too!!! LOL

Re: garter

I had same situation. I didn't want to wear garter but my MIL wants me to wear one, so on my wedding day, I put it on, took some pictures and as soon as she left my dressing room, I took it off.

Re: garter

We did a garter removal, and then an anniversary dance to give the bouquet away. There was no tossing, we didn't want to single anyone out as not being married, most of our friends are 30+ or are already married.

Re: garter

We only did the bok toss, no garter toss...we were going to do the garter toss and depending on who caught it depended on whether or not we did the garter being put on ...but we decided against doing the garter all together

We did all of it... removal, toss, putting it on the leg of the girl who caught it... we enjoyed it! But of course it's not for everybody.

Re: garter

I got a garter that FH would appreciate, but we're doing the removal of it in private...well, with the photographer, ahha (it would soo not be acceptable in our culture). If you don't want to do it, don't let yourself be forced into it.....you don't want that to make you or anyone else uncomfortable in any way.

We're not doing the toss - I never liked it and there really isn't a lot of single people at our reception anyway.

My cousin did a lovely thing at hers - no garter, no BOK.

Instead they had every married couple stand up and had every one sit down by decade until the only couple standing was the longest married. They then asked the couple for their advice for a long happy marriage and gave the wife the bouquet. I thought it was beautiful.

Re: garter

Being someone who was at a few weddings as one of the only single people, and older than all of my married friends, I despised the bouquet toss. I used to hide in the bathroom, and one time I was even PAGED to come out of the bathroom and get my bouquet! I'm not even that old, 28, but it was a joke that all of my married friends couldn't realize wasn't fun or funny to me, who was wondering if my boyfriend was ever going to pop the question. Therefore, I'm not putting anyone, especially his older sister, who is two years older than me and five years older than him, in that same position. But, I would love to do the garter toss because I found an awesome Giants garter that he doesn't know about, but will be so excited when he sees it. I know he'll see it that night , but I would love for everyone to get a nice laugh out of it. Any advice?

Re: garter

We are doing it! It's a funny addition to the wedding and I always wanted to throw my bo-k ever since i was a little girl.
We will have an age limit tho especially for the males to cut the awkwardness

Re: garter

No garter or bok toss for me, I always found it uncomfortable when I was a guest and now most of my friends are married so it would be wierd.

Re: garter

DH tossed my garter but instead of possibly having a drunk sweaty guy molest on of the girls (lol j/k j/k), we opted for a different idea.... instead - after the tosses we played a fun upbeat frank sinatra song & the girl who caught the bo-k 'won a dance with the groom' while the guy who caught the garter 'won a dance with me' ...it was fun & silly :)
