Garter Question

Well, from a utilitarian standpoint, garters were made to hold up thigh-high stockings. This was before elastic, I guess, so the thigh-highs came up to your mid thigh and clipped onto garters. Men see them as sexy and flirty, and they have come to be a symbol of that, even though they don't serve any purpose now. So at your wedding, the tradition is for the man to go up your dress (many do it provocatively, for a laugh from the crowd) and take your garter (I've seen it done with teeth before) off your leg. Then he throws it to the crowd of single men, like a bouquet toss is done for single women. One tradition is then for the woman who caught the bouquet to be humiliated - um, make that 'honored' - in front of everyone by sitting on a chair on the dance floor and having the garter-catcher push the garter up onto her thigh. It's all about symbolism of single women being 'untamed' and then captured and tamed by their husbands, yadda yadda. It's pretty innocent, but people have varying ideas on how much 'fun' this all is. I think you can guess my P.O.V.

However, a lot of brides just buy a cute blue garter for tradition and have that be their 'something blue'; simple as that.

I want to get a cute garter with something blue in it. I was thinking of using that as my something blue. After FH takes it off he is suppose to throw it to single guys and that guy puts it on the girl who caught the bo-k.

Yeah FH had never been to a wedding before where they did the garter

anyway we were at my cousins wedding. FH tried to be all mocho and grab the garter before anyone else.. well ya he got it but didnt realize that he had to put it on the girl. He went over slipped it on and walked away.. i felt bad, usually that moment is funny, FH ruined it hahahaha
