Gas Fireplace - Prices?

Anyone have any idea how much it is to put in a gas fireplace?

My friend just got an estimate for her houe and she said it was $5,000! She decided not to do it since she wants to move in the next year.

I have done the framing for a lot of these on a bunch of houses out East and I am pretty friendly with the guys who install the units. The actual box is about 2000.00 and every three feet of insulated pipe costs 100.00. So the cost of materials for a two story would be about $2800.00. This is a pretty accurate cost for MATERIALS only not labor.
