Re: gas prices
OMG - $4 a gallon!! Insane. I really feel the gas prices too because I have a long drive to and from work - almost 100 miles round trip! I hope they go down soon - a huge chunk of my pay check disappears due to gas!

Re: gas prices
The pipeline broke in the southwest, so that's their problem. I think the whole blackout thing is b.s. - just another excuse to rob the consumer!!

just another excuse to boost the prices on the most traveled week, the last week of summer.

Re: gas prices
I heard i was a combination of alot of factors, the broken pipeline, the blackout, which caused the companies not to be able to process the oil, becasue of the lack of electricity.
I think it has to do with Labor Day though!!

Re: gas prices
I paid $1.67 for 87 the other day. My car takes Premium but for $1.97 a gallon it can suffer with 87 for now!
I drove past a gas station in Hampton Bays yesterday for 87 it was $1.99 a gallon!!!!!!
well I will tell you that the gas prices in the west went up...even before the blackout...the blackout just caused you guys to get the higher prices...
I have not seen REGULAR for under $2.11 here in CA!!! and thats the cheap places!!!!! the broken pipeline in AZ caused hours long lines to fill up in AZ...and then since the pipeline broke...refineries couldn't get the oil to refine...so demand is up and supply is down = incresed prices...gotta love capitalism!!!!

Re: gas prices
Just saw $2.06 for premium in Commack. It was $1.99 in Huntington yesterday...thankfully I only put 89 in my car but those prices aren't that far behind premium!

Re: gas prices
Actually with the black out some refineries had to shut down. Starting a refinery back up is not a simple procees - it is a long systematic process. The gas price hike is due to the loss of supply due to the black out.

Re: gas prices
Color me crazy but I wasn't aware we had refineries in NY or Ohio. I always thought it was a Southern thing. Am I ignorant?!

Re: gas prices
of course they are trying to take advantage. as i said before many people travel this week because its the official last week/weekend of summer. they want to sqeeze every last $$ out of us!
well NJ has lower gas taxes on gas than NYS...so thats why you get cheaper gas in NJ...they try to attract Nyers to come and buy things like gas and clothes...etc...
I really think this is a simple equation of supply and demand...when the pipeline broke in AZ...it had a ripple effect...you can't have a major city like Phoenix without gas...so they have to send in gas...this creates a higher demand...this was going on before the blackout - out west...it just caught up to the east...
to be honest with you...I am only filling up $5 at a time...waiting for after labor day
