Gatsby Wedding?

Gatsby Wedding?

Hi Ladies,

I just heard about this type of wedding. I don't know too much about it other then its more of a cocktail style wedding. I was curious if any of you know about it or reception venues that would be willing to do this... I do currently have my eyes set on douglaston manor though.

Thanks!

Annemarie

It's basically one big party, eat as you want, dance as you want, more relaxed in my opinion. I love to dance, and I love cocktail hour. I hate having to sit down through a salad, pasta, entree and lose all the fun partying time! When I described the style we wanted, I was told by a few vendors it was referred to as a 'Gatsby' reception.

The Venetian developed this menu for us I believe. They said they've done this style before, but never had a formal menu written up (which they put together for us, yay!). You should check it out! I know the Lessing's properties do this style also, we looked at a few. They call it the 'Grand Reception.'

HTH!

Yes - we had our wedding at a Lesings property and this is what we did. They called it a Cocktail Reception, but first we had a regular (tons of food!) cocktail hour and then the reception was done this way. There was so much food and it worked out amazingly! Everyone loved it and had so much fun.

Yes, we did our wedding this way at the Bourne Mansion and it was great! FYI, some places also refer to it as 'mansion style'...

Gatsby refers to F. Scott Fitzgeralds's book 'The Great Gatsby' which BTW is coming out as a movie again this fall! There is a great version with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow from years ago. Check out photos on line.

Anyway, the book is set in a fictional location that is meant to reflect the great mansions of Long Island's gold coast before the great crash of the stock market.

Gatsby weddings replicate the mansion and period style, 1920s. Amanda had her reception at Bourne, wore a Vera Wang gown and the wedding was black tie. One of our guests told me as they were leaving that they had been transported back to the Great Gatsby... which was delightful to hear.

Think romance, mansions, period rolls royce etc..

I'd say call and ask. We knew we wanted this style and when we went to places we described it and they told us what they could offer. Out of all the places we went to, The Venetian was the only one that didn't change our vision, and really 'got' what we wanted.

Call around :)

i love this!!!! i'm contemplating asking my venue if they'll do it...

Gatsby Wedding?

First of all, I am super psyched to hear there is a Great Gatsby movie coming out! Second- I 100% recommend Bourne Mansion- Lessings. I was married June 15, 2012 and had the time of my life. The next day our 200 guests were all calling us saying the same. We didn't have a 'gatsby style' wedding, but I know they do that. Maitre d' Steve is great and so are Feggie (bridal attendant), and Ben and Jason (sales). Any questions, let me know!!
