Geez, after all of the talk of not wanting one....
we decided to look for a videographer. I knew this would cause problems because JT is a film/video guy and is EXTREMELY unimpressed by all the videos we have seen. So please, if you can, recommend some videographers to me, girls. He already has ruled out any of the ones on this site. He took one look at their samples on their sites and gave them all a big NO! (can we say Drama Queen? ) The only one we did like was Timeless Treasures. Has anyone used them?

Yeah, he said no to them already
We've already seen ALL the videos of ALL the videographers on this site, again, the ONLY one that was passable to him was Timeless Treasures.

We are using JoVon for video. However, the absolute best video we saw was from Kornfeld Studios. We didn't go with them b/c we didnt like their photography, but their video was amazing.

Try these guys
VIDEO GOLD 2142 SHERMAN AVE, MERRICK, NY 11566 Phone: (516) 536-4653
We were blown away by some of their demos but they were more then we wanted to spend.
And I have to say, if you could get JT to reconsider Candelight, they are worth a look. I am unmoved my anyone's videos (anyone being friends & family), but the work they showed us and what they did with our video was beyond expectations.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE OFFENSE ANYONE, JT IS JUST REALLY PICKY. He is a 'trained eye' so to speak. I won't say what he said about each one specifically so I do not hurt anyone's feelings, but IN GENERAL, he felt the overall quality of all of the work he saw was very cheesey and that the camera work seemed way too wobly to be professional. He thought the editing was all too typical and many seemed outdated. We want something more photojournalistic in style that doesn't scream wedding. Y'know?

I mean, if he could have his way, he would not use a wedding videographer. he would hire someone he knows, but I will not even go there. I want someone who does weddings because there's so many things you need to know, like what to take video of and just the overall timeline of the event. I can see this is going to be a pain in the ***. But I guess that's ok, because up till now, our choices have been effortless!

I would recommend Franklin Square photographers. I have a background in video too, and I think I drove every vendor we talked to nuts with questions about their editing equipment, cameras, etc. FS Photo's video was impressive and didn't have your typical 'wedding video' look and feel. Their package was a bit expensive though. Your FI may want to ask how much say you can have in the editing of the footage. Or, at least one of the photographers we visited offered a package with just the raw footage - maybe your FI could have a friend who works in the field edit it?

Actually, this is one option. JT can edit it himself. He has access to avid and what not, so that's no problem. I will check them out.

Re: Geez, after all of the talk of not wanting one....
I'm glad I wasn't the only one that was picky in this area - I was a TA at Syracuse U's communication school and the majority of the wedding videos we saw would have been given an F if I was the teacher in the class. I had considered the editing it myself option, but wasn't sure I could get access to the equipment easily since I am no longer in the field. So we went with FS Photo - the editor also shoots the wedding, and seemed really knowledgeable. I believe Proline was the one who offered the raw footage package. Good luck!

I haven't booked a videographer yet because I still have to do the band and photographer but i think I'm going to book L. John Morelli. You can check out his website and he'll send you a sample before you meet with him and he's AMAZING! I really loved his style and the sample he sent was really great - even better than the samples on his website- I was in tears watching it!
Here's his website.

Hope this helps!

Well, FI and I didn't book a wedding videographer, we booked a documentary filmmaker who does a few weddings a year, so I know exactly what you mean. FM me for more info.
You might want to check out craigslist.org and try to go with video professionals who do only a few weddings. That way they're familiar with weddings, but not to the point that everything looks the same.
I would also try www.thirdplanetvideo.com - this is not my videographer, but is the kind of person I'm talking about. He's a pretty straight forward type of videographer, 20 years experience, and unedited is $300 for 6 hours.
