Gel manicure

Gel manicure

I'm so annoyed.. i asked the ladies at the nail salon i go to in bayside to put something over my nails to make the polish last... i'm tired of needing to polish my nails every few days...

so on saturday i went and they suggested the gel manicure.. well the UV gel is nice b/c you can tell it will stay for a few days. but there is hardly any color/they are just shiny. I told her I wanted a french manicure and so she just put a clear pink over it. well my nails just look like they have a clear polish--not what i was looking for for $20.00... i don't think she understood me.

I have long nails/that grow evenly and I don'to want tips or wraps, any suggestions what I shoudl try? I wonder if they can do the french before they do the uv gel , would that work?

but they did do an awesome job on a french pedicure. i've never had one before, and i love it.. can't stop staring at my feet!

Re: Gel manicure

i am the biggest advocate of natural nails - i learned from YEARS of wraps how horrible the damage is to your nails. i now (w/o trying to sound too proud) have beautiful natural nails - and what i use is from O-P-I called Nail Envy - they sell it in Queens Center Mall in Essentials and in the Source Mall in Trade Secret. I should really get a job as the spokesperson - the stuff is better than nailtiques or any other stuff i have tried.

Even my manicurist is astounded by how strong and 'fake' looking my nails are. i usually polish my nails done about once a week - i also use on top - sally hansen quick dry top coat (you can buy that in a cvs) and my nails almost never turn colors (with french or light colors) from the sun or tanning - and i am pretty rough with my hands. that may help you seal your color and keep it looking fresh.
p.s. - be careful with the gel maincure - after awhile the gel builds up and become almost as if you were to have acrylic on your nails - and if you chip or break a lot of the time it tears some of your natural nail with it.

good luck........

Re: Gel manicure

I LOVE nails!! Its so sad. Especially since I got engaged. I had wraps on for the longest time but I took them off to save money. Before, my nails NEVER grew. But for some reason, they have started to get pretty long recently. I tried the gel manicure but I found that it cracked and ended up looking horrbily in a few days. So now I am trying to all natural look. I just go for a manicure about every week and a half or so. I hate that the color dosent last that long, but I am beginning to deal with it. I think I will try that OPI Nail Envy stuff though. Its worth a shot

Re: Gel manicure

I will try it...

my friend at work just got gel manicure-- w/ French.. they look AWESOME! she paid 80 dollars and its supposed to last 3 weeks! then the refill is 40 every 2-3 weeks. they gel coating is like 10 times thicker then the thin coat that i got done... makes me think i should spend more money to get the good one--I paid only 20 dollars for the gel manicure in bayside at Lovely nails on Bell blvd. i think i need to shop around.

i never had a gel manicure so i have cant really say much. i have had tips on for about 5 years. every four months i get the set changed. i havent had a problem. this year i took the tips off and my natural nails are really long and are actually strong. i had them silk rapped.

Re: Gel manicure

My salon does permanent french gel manicures. I haven't gotten one, but it looks gorgeous. The salon owner said it was supposed to last 3 weeks. During the summer my manicure lasts nearly 2 weeks, but I am definitely getting it done right before school starts.

Re: Gel manicure

its a vicious cycle with the nails...ive done it all. my favorite was uv gel. it was sturdy and lasted forever.

it was put over my natural nails.

then i would get regular french airbrushed and then a coat of the clear gel over it-like a top coat- so it SUPER lasted.

i suggest you get similar.

Re: Gel manicure

I dont think my nail place has UV Gel Manicures. I would DEFINATLEY try that because the regual gel manicure was very thin and cracked a lot. Does every salon do UV Gel Manicures???
