general church question

I can't get into pre-cana until October 6th. And then I am going to make my appt. w. the monsignor for RIGHT after that for the pre-marital investigation (PMI). Only because I am a terrible worrier, is there ANY WAY AT ALL that we can be turned away after our PMI? The monsignor told me we were booked and ready to go..but I am having this fear that my FI is going to say something wrong while he's separated from me , or I am going to mess something up. Has anybody ever heard horror stories that might pertain? Or am I worrying so I don't have to concentrate on the other 'things to do'....Thanks!

Re: general church question

I can't imagine they would turn you away so try not to worry about it.

Why do you have to wait so long for precana? I went months ago.

Re: general church question

I never heard anything of PMI. My priest never said anything about that to me. I know about pre-cana and everything that pertains to it. What does PMI consist of? Is it the same as pre-cana?

Re: general church question

The PMI is the pre-marital investigaion / questionairre. You hve to answer a few questions in an invterview w. the priest after pre-cana. I waited so long because we just found out that we got the church like a week ago. (St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC)

Re: general church question

My fiance and I did that with the Monsignor the first time we met him. He asked us some questions and then separated us and then asked us more questions individually. I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: general church question

I wouldnt worry about it, I went with my FI a few monthes ago and we filled out the questionsaire, it wasnt anything that big. The Deacon said that they dont actually investigate you but rather keep it on file in case someone lies (about having children, divorced, ect..) and it could be used for grounds for annulment (?)
Im sure you will be fine!
Good Luck!

Re: general church question

Filing out the questionaire and being separted, doesn't that get done at pre-cana? Everyone that I know that has gotten married did not have to go through the PMI. Also, my priest told me that me have to do pre-cana only. In pre-cana is where all that stuff is done.

Re: general church question

Not all priests call it the PMI. Our priest just said he wanted to meet with us individually to talk with us. Thats when he got out this giant ledger and made us answer a bunch of basic questions like 'if you have children, do you agree to raise them catholic', etc...

For our church- it was pretty much a rubber stamp.

Jen: Do you have to take precana with St Pats? We are getting married a few blocks away from St Pats but took our precana in Brooklyn. Our priest said anyplace in the country is fine as long as we have proof. Not that there is anything wrong with 10/6.

Re: general church question

ya know stef - i am not sure. He gave me a booklet on only NY State locations. So I assumed that I had to do NY....I wonder if I could do New Jersey? Ugh. The though of calling there....yuck!

I think Oct. 6 will be fine. I mean - we meet him right after that and go over everything and that's still a month in advance. I might get lucky and get the Sept. 22nd date....
