GENERATORS - where to get one NOW?!?!!?

Anyone know any place that still has them in stock? I finally convinced DH to get one, but now we can't find one!!!

I tried Home Depot (they said the entire island is sold out), Lowe's (same story), Sears Hardware, PC Richard and Sons, and even Costco (also sold out all over the island).

Any ideas?!?!

There is also an Ace hardware in Bellmore/Merrick. Maybe they have some left.

Have you tried a Home Depot in Queens? There are 2 in College Point.

The HomeDepot I called told me all HDs are sold out. The ACE in Bohemia was out, and just on chance, I went to the ACE in Oakdale, they are also out.... Oh well. I should call around to a few ACEs. The True Value (Brinkmann's) in Sayville is also out, they were my first stop this morning.

This is insane I really thought Queens HDs would have them

We ordered one from Northern Tool with 2 day delivery (it will be here tomorrow).

Try the yellow pages under Generators. There's a lot of power tool retailers that may still have them.

Sometimes the small Mom and Pop hardware stores have them. I hope u get one. I thought I was the only one running around like no tomorrow in case Isabel hit. I spent the morning getting my 2 cats cat food, litter, and going to the supermarket for non perishible foods- peanut butter, granola bars, tuns fish, matzoh, etc, The I went to Walgreen's for batteries. And the BBQ place for more gas in my grill. If the storm does not hit, at least we will all be prepared just in case for the next one.

thanks girls!
minnie - i'm running around too! i still have to hit the grocery store, but i made sure both propane tanks were filled, i made sure we had batteries, i check on the cat food. i even pulled their carrying crates up from the basement. i live on the south shore - should we flood, we are out of here. we are going to fill up the gas in our cars too but we will wait a few days for it.

the good thing is that all of the stuff i'm doing won't go to waste should the hurricane not hit, so i'm not concerned about wasting money on this stuff!

The man in the BBQ store told me to put some bricks on top of the BBQ, and not to store it indoors with a filled propane tank, which I knew anyway, just wanted to pass on some handy and safe info. I also put the cat carriers where I can easily reach them, and I am going to do laundry, fill the cars up with gas, go to the bank to move $$ into checking account so I can pay the mortgage early, incase there is no mail for a while. I even fixed my fence by myself. I was so proud!

you're so on top of things! that's great!!! i feel the need to stop doing homework so i can do more too. i took the day off and was going to do laundry but haven't yet, so i should get going on that. i put one propane tank in the garage, and the other is attached to the grill. is that wrong?

i also plan on moving the picnic table into the garage.

we are also going to take out cash. (HA like we have any!) who knows how long ATMs may be down.

Girls, I think it's great that you are all prepared, and I am as well, but they showed on the weather that this storm most likely is not even going to hit here, so hopefully this eases the urgency for things like generators!

Re: GENERATORS - where to get one NOW?!?!!?

well, i think i've decided that i can't really afford the ones that i can find online right now, and since i can't find one in a store that is a bit more my price range, i went to walmart and bought a big cooler for $14.

oh well...

thank you everyone for your help.

(btw, that website is great but they are backordered... like the rest of the world!)

I say you just have a big dinner party and cook everything in the fridge and freezer before the hurricane hits
