Generic...

I just spoke with FHs brother and he and his fiance finally set a 'real' date for their wedding. They were originally planning a destination wedding in Peurto Rico on 7/7/07 (they were engaged first) But after realizing that no one in their family can afford to fly off to Peurto Rico, and that they weren't about to pay for everyone, they decided to have a destination wedding in Vermont instead. So, they are marrying at the Mountain Top Inn in Killington Vermont on July 15. Its going to be so pretty...

But now...I feel like our wedding is going to be soo generic. I wanted so much for it to be special and memorable...and I know that where and when you marry is not the important part....I still wanted people to walk away saying 'Wow! That was really nice.'

I am NOT thrilled with my reception hall- I settled...and I think thats part of the reason.

How can I make my wedding special- without breaking the bank?

Sorry for the whining...I just got really sad for a minute.

The people make the wedding not the place. I have been to weddings in expensive over the top wedding halls and thought it was nothing great. I went to a wedding in a Knights of Columbus Hall we were served our dinner by old ladies and the cake was a homemade Sara Lee and it was so fun. The bride and groom partied all night and so did all the guests. You make your day special along with all your guests. No Regrets!!

I can completely empathize. I've been engaged for 2 years and my cousin got engaged about 5 months ago and is getting married in March!! I felt that he was totally trying to steal my thunder.

We all are going to Louisiana for the wedding (the bride is from there, my cousin is from Texas)... and they are having 2 ceremonies - one american and one hindu (she's indian)... so again, I felt completely like crap, like their wedding was going to be 'better' than ours... it took a while but I'm finally over it and realize that they will be different but that doesnt make one better than the other...

but it does kind of stink for the whole family b/c now they have 2 (3) weddings to attend this year...

Aww Keri I hear ya!

I'm sorry you think you settled on the BH. I thought that for a bit too actually. I like VYC A LOT more but what can you do? But I realized in the end that isnt a big of a deal. I actually plan to change up the room a bit. Add your own touches and it will shine Keri!

My cousin also annoucned he is getting married 2 weeks before me! That means a lot of my cousin and my great aunts and uncles wont be able to make it up to my wedding from FL bc. they cant afford to come up for one and then another or stay another 2 weeks. And I;m actually closer with his grandma (my aunt) than he is!

BTW, have you become by neighbor yet? I have to bring over my jello mold.

You can always FM me or walk down the street to my house!!

I'm so sorry. I totally understand why you'd feel that way.

Let's see....well, think of it this way- the wedding is about the couple, not about where you're at. No matter where you have your wedding- YOU set the tone. YOU make it special, not the reception hall. See what I'm saying? A wedding could be in any remote, fancy place that costs a bazillion bucks - and it could still be boring if the couple doesn't make it personalized and special. Or if the couple isn't having a good time for that matter!

Add your own personal touches- go with a fun theme! It will be special because YOU make it special!

The people you love will appreciate it because it is YOUR day and they will be happy for you!

Re: Generic...

i settled. I know I did because I really didn't have a choice. My FH's aunt and uncle OWN a catering hall on Long Island and, well, there is no one else in the tri state area that would give us a wedding a cost...

Now don't get me wrong, the place is beautiful and the food is hands down some of the best on LI but it's not my top pick. Actually, it would not have even made the list. I would prefer a barn, or something more woodsy - something unique - different. If I had my way so much of this wedding would be totally different. It's partially my fault, I didn't put my foot down on certain things but I also chose to take the less painful path. This is NOT my dream wedding by any means. In the end, I'm wondering how much it will really matter. I am getting a lot of things that are important to me. I have a beautiful dress and all my girls will be standing beside me. I am marrying my prince and ALL my friends will be there.

I totally agree. The people usually remember how much fun they had. Not just what they ate.

Kick those heels off and dance the night away.

Don't let this bum you out. What makes a wedding isn't how much you spend on it and stuff, but the people.

You can do little things to personalize your wedding that'll make people say 'wow, this is great.' It's about the little things that you incorporate that will make it stand out.

Re: Generic...

Yes..it's not the place or the budget that makes the wedding. It's the people, the music....the booze And most importantly (and sorry this is going to sound cliche) your love for each other.
Someone very close to me is getting married before me and is planning such an over the top event that she could potentially be on platinum weddings. I had to make myself accept that I can't compete on that level, but that doesn't mean my wedding is going to be any less fabulous. We're doing the best we can for our budget, and plan to include many 'special touches,' but I think no matter what it will be a memorable day b/c we're a pretty special couple...IMHO

Re: Generic...

throw alot of yourselves into your wedding...personal touches that represent you as a couple...it doesn't need to cost alot to do that...and that will make it memorable!

I went to a fancy schmancy wedding that cost a fortune and it was the most boring event i ever attended...nothing of the couple themselves shined thru in it..they hardly even danced...all the music was for people 50+...so don't let that get you down!

the best weddings I have been to were special b/c of small, special details. Not because of where they were or what time of year.
