Re: George Washington Manor

I thought it was a lovely, quaint little place. Very nice for a smaller, intimate wedding. The menu was excellent and I've heard the food is as good as it sounds. The only thing that I wasn't crazy about was that it's right in the middle of a 3 way intersection, so you almost drive smack into it when you go there.

There were a lot of nice things about it though - check it out!

I love that place! So quaint and and homey and just elegant. If you get the manor room which is the one upstairs with all the windows make sure you don't have more than about 120 or 130 guests. they will say that 150 fit up there but that makes it EXTREMELY uncomfortable for everyone. Who are you meeting with? Barry and both Janines are GREAT! the food is great there also as is the service!

I agree - if you are having a smaller wedding this place would be great. I went to a wedding there and a (large) shower there and the food was great but the rooms were over packed. I think they tell you the rooms fir more than they do.

P.S. - I believe that when I went there they told me that their sister company is the Milleridge Inn, which is where I'm getting married. The Milleridge is closer to my church, plus it's less expensive. Just an FYI if you want to check it out.

The milleridge is the same owners as the GWM but I always though the milleridge was much more expensive than the GWM @ least that has been my experience. What's great though @ both places they give you free centerpieces--which are 1/2 dozen or maybe even a dozen of fresh roses (color is your choice) which saves a lot from the florist!

My shower was held there and everything was beautiful. I love the place.

Re: George Washington Manor

I wanted to book there but dh said he didnt like the room upstairs it was too small for 100 people.

Even though it would hold 100 people just fine

Re: George Washington Manor

endlessluv - the GW Manor is pretty expensive (for me anyway). It was over $100/pp for a spring reception. At the Milleridge I'm paying $69/pp plus tax & gratuity (that's for the Carriage House - the Cottage may be more expensive. I'm not sure....)

Re: George Washington Manor

when my sister called up milleridge for reservations for 15 people, they told her to call up the georgewashington which are the same owners and that she'd like the food better(and they did)
but milleridge catering is suppose to be real good..

Re: George Washington Manor

Thanks for the info. We will probably invite 160?? So how many NO's do you think I would get?

I wanted to look at the carriage house but they said you had to garuantee 200 for Sat night :(

Re: George Washington Manor

Of the 160 you are inviting,is there a huge percentage of out of towners?

I tried doing the 20% thing with my invites ,but it is NOT happening. I have not gotten any no's

Just a few from Jersey, so that is not too far. But I heard that the NO's come in at the last minute... so don't be scared

Re: George Washington Manor

the carraige house at milleridge holds upto 130 people..(but id recommend it for more like 100).. they said like over 110 and they use oval tables instead of the circle tables and it cuts into the dancefloor space..
*eddited to say... did you look at stewart manor country club? it is really nice in there and only 1 wedding at a time... with 100 minimum 185 max)... i almost booked with them myself

Re: George Washington Manor

hmm you are going to be tight at GWM with over a hundred people upstairs.

Re: George Washington Manor

yea-anything over like 120/130 is tight--especially on the dance floor.

anniegirl--yes the carriage house is much less -- i was referring to the cottage--sorry for the mix up.

Re: George Washington Manor

I AM GETTING MARRIED THERE!!! I love the GWMANOR...we wnated fireplaces, we live in jersey, we looked in PA, Jersey and finally LI and found what we wnated at GW MANOR. They are great to work with and I dont think I could have found a better place for what we were looking for. We have done surprise visits for lunch to see if it was just as yummy as during the taste testing and it is ALWAYS great food. I have had several vendors complinment the GW MANOR, and they have absolutely no connection to them. Please ask me any questions that you want..I think its a great place!!
