George Washington Manor help!!

Hi ladies,

I am wondering if there are any George Washington Manor brides or people who have visited GWM or who have been to a wedding or event there who can help me… I would appreciate any pictures you can post, pricing info (for a Sunday afternoon in Nov/Dec/Jan), and advice or info you can share. THANKS!!!!

I've never been to a wedding at GWM but it was the first hall I visited when wedding planning. I LOVED IT!! It doesn't look like much from the outside but inside has such charm and ambience. I loved the history of the place as well. It has a different feeling than that of the typical catering halls.

The reason we didn't go for GWM was because we like the wedding packages that Ariana offers.

I definitely suggest you go over there and take a look.

GWM is one of my top choices. The place has so much charm and history and is so beautiful. Although it may be too small for a party of 120pp, we are still considering it.

We were quoted $81 for a Saturday night in March.

Good luck!

I was a GW Manor bride!

I don't have any pricing info on me right now, but I don't think it would help since we got married in May. I'm sure that prices in the winter will be lower.

The pictures that the photographer took there don't really show what the room looks like very well. There are a lot of big windows so at night it's obviously dark in the room and you can't see too well how it's decorated (and most of the pictures don't even show the room in full). I have one of my proofs that the photographer took of the room while it was still light out and none of the guests had shown up yet. I don't have it scanned on this computer though. It pretty much looks like the picture that you see on the GW Manor website - this is it (the Mount Vernon Room):

The cocktail hour room is downstairs.
You should go check it out! We LOVED the GW Manor! The food was really good. Trust me - I'm a big food snob
Here's the link to my review

Let me know if you have any questions!

I am getting married there at the end of this month! Very excited about it, of course. They have two different rooms, one of which holds up to 150, so it definitely is not too small for 120 guests. They've been great to work with so far. FM me if you want any more details. Oh--they're very reasonably priced, too. They have pics of the rooms on their website. We're in the Mount Vernon Room (the one upstairs with all the windows).

FH and I almost booked there.

We brought Mom with us to help us decide. So glad we did that!!

The people there are great, the food is great, but there was one thing I couldn't get over. The bathrooms and the toilets! The plumbing in their facility is antiquated, to say the least. I know that building is very old, but when you have to hold the flusher down for the water in the toilet to go down, that's not good. The bathrooms are very small and not very nice. I kept picturing myself or my guests all dressed up in those tiny yucky bathrooms. Not good.

Also, the climate control in there was off. It was 100 degrees in the bathroom, and freezing in the dinning area.

It's very quaint and charming, but it was not the right place for us.

That room does NOT hold 150 people. You may be able to SQUISH 150 people in there. They had told me 140 was the max. We had 113 and it was just right for that room.

When we were just there, they told us that if we were going to be over 140 they recommend also renting out the room adjacent to the ball room, and they put the bar in there. That frees up some room in the ballroom for the tables. So maybe that's the only way it holds 150. We're going to be 120 tops, so we'll be fine.

We looked at George Washington Manor, and liked it quite a bit, except we would have had the smaller room upstairs. It was a little too small in my opinion, and we could not have fit dancing in at all. We decided to go with Milleridge Inn, which had a better sized room for our wedding, but a similar style.

Yeah, I didn't like the bathrooms either.

You girls have me nervous. I have four months to go, four from today that is! AHHHH. If the mount vernon room does not hold 150 I am in big trouble! We thought we wanted a small wedding but now the list is growing. We have to fit 150 people in. Did anyone have the bar in the other room. Would you suggest that? Besides that worry I am extremely happy we chose that location. I think it is quaint and romantic. WE LOVE IT!

Are you inviting that many or are that many definites? It's inevitable that you will have some no's. But if you ask about the bar in the other room I am sure they will if the room is not booked. I found them to be very accomodating.

I had my wedding at the GWM in October. We had a small wedding (70ish people) in the Presidential Room. It was perfect for that number of people. That room had a max of 120 but that would have been tight.

Regardless, we were thrilled with everything about the place. It poured the day of my wedding, and we got there early. They unlocked the chapel for us for pictures and sent over food and staff to get our drink orders. It was like a little private pre-party. We too got lots of compliments on the food and the whole staff was so friendly.

I did not have an issue with the bathrooms. I thought they were fine. I was going to have an issue no matter what, squeezing into a stall in that poufy dress.

If any of you GWM brides have other questions, I'd be happy to answer via FM.

ETA: I think we paid $87 pp for a Friday night (that was with the tax and grat included). I think Sunday afternoons were a little more but the winter months are less than that.
