GET 2 KNOW U- DAILY TOP 5!!! Rage. Don't read if you're not in the mood for grumpy.

Original post by Suzanner

Okay, for anyone who hasn't read my posts thus far today, I'm in a bit of a funk. I am the grumpy old man who lives down the block and throws things at the kids. I am the grumpy lady at work who sneers at everyone who says good morning. And I am the grumpy woman who picks fights with kids on the subway (I really have been this last lady, but that was a few years ago).

I'm trying to recover, but it's slow going. I will try to post another more cheerful top 5 later today. Since Donna's mom scooped me with the Vacation and fave things you own lists (great minds think alike!), I'm trying to settle on another option. But for right now, this one seemed to go with my mood.

So please list the top 5 things that make you go so insane with rage that you can do nothing to make yourself feel better except shop, eat, or eat.

1. Voice Mail menus. I think this is the all-time worst invention. I literally get a pit of despair in my stomach every time I have to call a large company, like a health insurance company.

Subsets of this topic: Worst things to hear on a voice mail menu: When you press 0, the old school trick for getting a person, you get this one 'That is not a valid option.'

Or on a voice recognition menu, when you say 'I want to speak to a representative', it responds, 'okay, in order to transfer you to the correct person, please tell me a little bit about why you are calling'. I'm calling to speak to a representative, you disembodied voice. At least I have a soul, loser.

The worst thing to hear on these menus, after you have hit every option in God's creation: 'Goodbye'. For no good reason. I think this should be grounds for justifiable homicide. Whom to kill, though? It's not like it's a real person. So instead of killing the guilty party, I kill myself with increasing rage, thereby increasing my cortisol levels, and resultingly, by belly fat (if those commercials are to be believed).

2. Anyone who drives a car but me, and who happens to be on the same road at the same time. Especially if said driver is driving a minivan in the fast lane. There should be a rule- no minivans in the fast lane. I also CANNOT STAND when people mess up when they drive, and I look over, and they're on their cell phone. I SWEAR, I was right by my house and stopped by a red light, and some girl who couldn't have been more than 25 blows through the opposite stop sign and almost crashes into me. She's on her phone, with a tiny dog in her lap. If I could have turned around, I would have gone all Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome on her a$$. And the best part- as she drove right by me, she half-heartedly lifted up her hand as if to say 'excuse me, those signs are for you, not me. I'm too busy talking to whomever I can call when I get home to stop for oncoming traffic.' She did NOT, however, deign to make eye contact.
It's not like I'm totally against talking on the phone when you drive. But use the bluetooth, or talk when it's an emergency. But please. Have some common sense. This makes me crazy. Can you tell?

Also, people who fail to signal, and people who love to drive slow in the fast lane, or fast in the slow lane. Know who you are and where you belong. I had an uncle who was much older, and he drove in the fast lane at 65. I asked him why he was in the fast lane, and he said, 'this is the speed limit. If they don't like it, they can go around me.' hello, crotchety!! When did you turn 95? He was just in a bad mood that day and wanted to make everyone else pay. He got some gratification from it, I think. That's what I think driving has become- instant rage gratification. I've said some things behind the wheel that I would NEVER say in real life. I hope this isn't just me.

3. A lot of perfume on the plane, bus or train. Okay, I know I'm in the minority on this one, but I am allergic to perfume. If I'm in an elevator with a woman who drowns in it, I have a migraine for the rest of the day, and feel nauseous. Now, I understand many of us love perfume, and I know a lot of them are lovely. But not everyone can tolerate it, or even likes it. When you put it on, it's not just for you, but for everyone in your immediate vicinity. What if they don't like it? And in essence, you're making them smell that for the entire time they're near you. I don't get this. And if you love it, wear it out at night! Wear it in your home! Or at least apply it conservatively. You could actually be causing someone else pain.

I was on a plane for a 4 hour flight once, and this woman came into my row. It was like someone suckerpunched me with bug repellent. Whether her perfume was nice or not, WHY WHY WHY would you wear it on a plane, where everyone is trapped with no air movement whatsoever? Put it on when you get there. Thank you.

4. People who sit on the 'outside' bus or train seat, because they think no one will ask them to move and share the seat, which, by the way, is intended for two or more people. And god forbid you ask them to move, and they will sigh and begrudgingly swivel around, and not even get up for you to get into the seat.

I was on the bus this morning, and it was packed to the point that people were standing. There was ONE seat left, and this guy was sitting on the outside, and trying his best to make sure no one sat next to him. He preferred to make people stand the whole way in to the city. As long as his coat had a seat, he was happy. I was obsessed with his rudeness, and actually flagged a guy down and pointed to the empty seat. The rude man was none too pleased.

This also applies to people with bags on the seats. Did your bags pay a fare? Then unless the train is empty, they should be sitting on your lap or the floor.

5. People who lie, or have no integrity, or who are fake. You can see these people a mile away, and they have no idea who they are, because they even lie to themselves.

6. Having to be fake to work-related people. Because you can't function any other way, and you are under paid obligation to do so. So does that, in effect, make me one of the people from point 5?? Probably.

I need a bagel right now. If I eat a bagel in order to save lives, is it really cheating? If I eat a bagel in order to save myself, isn't that okay? Please someone tell me it's okay.

6. People that don't mind their own business. I was pumping gas. Left my car running. (Yes it's not legal but I don't care!) Some lady walks up to be and says 'You are not supposed to leave your car running while you pump gas.' She was rude. I told her 'Mind your own business, LADY!'

That was me.

Kidding!! The women who give other women dirty looks? I will NEVER understand this. I hate to believe we are so catty. It seems some of us are. The first bridal store I went to, the owner gave me a head to toe scan like you wouldn't believe. Didn't even try to be subtle about it. I look forward to their going out of business.

4.mayo---i know its strange but i hate mayo if it had a face id smack it

Okay, on #2. Why do people do this? In Brooklyn, I was at a theater and the girl behind me, NO KIDDING....
leaned over to the girl sitting next to her and translated EVERY line into spanish.

I am completely serious. I turned around and asked her as nicely as I could muster, 'could you please be quiet?'

Of course, I get the stock answer- F you, and all of that. And then she drops my favorite of all time:

'You don't know me!'

and in one of my best retorts of all time, because I'm the person who can't think of something to say until HOURS later, I completely lost it, and stood up, and yelled:

Of COURSE I know you. EVERYONE here knows you. You are a dime a dozen. Don't flatter yourself- you are some rude bit** in the movie theater talking through the whole movie. And we've all seen it before. Now shut the F up!!!

There was a smattering of applause.

And she did, indeed, shut the F up. Score one in the win column.

I

I completely agree with people who take the outside train seat and may I add the idiots who ignore pregnant women and the elderly. They know who they are. They see them coming and so they look down and pretend not to see them so they don't have to get up. Just wait til I am pregant. I will directly ask people to get up so I can sit down.

Oh, and men who practically knock women over in order to get a seat on the train. What happened to chivalry? They are not the ones who have had to work in 2 inch heels all day. would it kill them to let a woman sit down? This is one topic that really pisses me off, lol!

My FAVORITE is when you see the men see a pregnant woman walk on the train, and they will immediately pretend that they are sleeping. I can't TELL you how many fights I've gotten into on the train over this. I can't STAND to see a pregnant or elderly person stand. I don't understand anyone who would sit while someone is struggling to stand.

My FH has YELLED at other guys for this. He gives his seat to any woman EVER (just cuz!). I watched a 9 month prego woman about to birth stand the entire way back to Queens one day, I was FURIOUS. I was standing too so I was no help.

My comment about annoying pregnant people was more along the lines of, I don't want to hear about your hoohah discharge and your birthing process, etc. Oh and keeping the kids placenta or anything else gross.

I'd also like to add people who reheat fish in the office to my list. Its just uncalled for.

I think we might be related! Does your FH get embarrassed when you make such a sense, as mine does?

I agree with a lot of what has been posted, but I'll add a few.
1. People who drive in the left lane. It is NOT the fast lane, it is the passing lane. If you aren't passing someone get the F out of it. It especially erks me when some is taking their merry old time in the left lane and there is no one next to them. Move the F over.

2. Having to press 'english' at the ATM. Everytime I have to do it I get annoyed thinking it should be the default.

3. People who become dumb once they enter the supermarket. Don't leave your damn cart across the aisle and get mad when I ask you to move it. Get what you need and move along. I literally stood waiting to get a tub of ricotta cheese for 5 mins last week because apparently the women in front of me thought it was rocket science picking out the right kind.

4. Another supermarket vent (I could go on for days). It's bad enough you get food stamps/welfare, etc from the money I pay in taxes. But then you question every item the cashier rings up and then don't know how to use the damn debit card social services gives you (thereby making me stand on line any extra 20 minutes). And then you walk out to your brand new SUV with your designer handbag.

5. Sitting at a red light and an older man is staring at me. Usually someone who could be my father. I sometimes am tempted to roll down the window yell, 'what, do you think you went to elementary school with my dad or something?'
Also when young guys in cars they've outfitted with every sticker Pep Boys sells (they add 10 hp each didn't you know) rev their engine at me. I may be a girl, but I know what my car can do. The engine is worked and I drive stick, I could leave you in the dust. But I am not an idiot. If I wanted to race I would take it to the damn track.

6. I have to add one more which basically covers a lot of them. People who have no respect for others. It seems so rampant these days, whether it's people on the road, in parking lots or in the store. It's like their time is more important then yours and they don't care that there are other people in the world.

Regarding the annoying pregnant post, I totally understood this! And it's gross. I'm not intrigued by stories of your mucus plug.

Also, people with kids, where there kids are the only people who exist. I've had conversations with friends, and mid-story, their kid comes up and says 'mommymommymommymommy', and she actually turns around to ask 'what'. If that were my kid, as long as he was okay, I would maybe excuse myself to my friend, turn to my kid, and teach him some manners about interrupting.

And what about your kid making a major ruckus in a restaurant? I did not pay to go out for a nice night, only to have to listen to your kid. I KNOW, kids will be kids, but if your kid isn't fit for public consumption, keep it at home until it is.

And finally, about the fish,

1- when i hold the door open..not everyone says thank you. its not that hard.

i always turn around and say 'youre welcome' with the death stare!

here are mine:

1. elderly drivers (over 70??? get off the road) i wish mass transit was better on li so they were able to leave their homes...or maybe they should only be able to drive between the hours of 8-5, when im at work.

also, out of state drivers....i know i am a ridic driver, im fast, i will switch lanes like a mad man, and i will give you the 'f-you' hand...but please, learn how to drive in new york, if you will be driving in new york.

and dont even get me started on out of state elderly drivers

2. rude people when you call places (like insurance company, cablevision, etc...) listen sweetie pie, its your job to take care of whatever problem i have, so please be as kind as possible...im nice to you.

3. my bank account...although it used to read many digits, now it only reads 2 or 3....its a reallll shame.

4. how badly mentally handicapped people are treated...it makes me feel so bad when people act differently toward them when they are trying so hard to fit in

5. walmart....not for their low pices (which i adore, thank you walmart) but for their complete lack of regard for their employees (no overtime, no health benefits, unfair pay), and especially how they put the mentally handicapped man at the front door, which is supposed to evoke some sort of spending emotion....when all i really want to do is be like 'keep track of your hours...check your paystubs'

6) Verizon wireless

VERIZON = CRIMINALS. I will NEVER IN MY LIFE deal with Verizon again. They put an adverse report on my credit report saying I owed early termination fees for DSL. From SIX YEARS PRIOR. They said they couldn't reach me. I'VE BEEN IN THE BOOK FOREVER. ARE YOU SERIOUS????? And the best part is, I actually called them beforehand about the issue, and was told that the fee was waived, due to me moving to a building that wasn't wired for Verizon- we can only use Hotwire.

After I spoke to about 33 pigs on the phone, finally I got a woman at the President's office who said if I paid the $217, she would, and I quote, 'make the whole thing go away'. She basically extorted me.

And I read in the Daily News that apparently, they did this to THOUSANDS of people. Verizon can eat it.

And ditto the traffic guys. However, I resent the thin ones, too. And why don't they do that stuff at night, when everyone's not trying to get to work??
