Get me out of my funk - LONG

Get me out of my funk - LONG

I’ve got a weird situation…at least it feels weird. My wedding date is in December but we actually already got married. My husband’s father was very ill and didn’t think he’d make it to December so we had what was supposed to be a small ceremony at my husband’s family’s house. (It turned into a much bigger event than we wanted, courtesy of my MIL but that’s something else.) My FIL asked us not to change our plans for the December wedding so we’re going ahead with it. Problem is – it feels so anti climactic. We’re already married…plus there’s been so much bad blood from the ceremony in June, I just feel so sad and depressed and totally not into continuing planning. I talked to my husband about canceling the December one but we’re paid pretty much ahead on everything and have planned for a day that I was really really excited about and Most of our friends and family weren’t at the summer ceremony. Plus he wants it.
At the wedding this summer, my mom was acting pretty odd. She isn’t the typical ‘motherly’ type and wasn’t that into the whole wedding planning process but she is genuinely happy for me (I’m pretty sure). But at the ceremony, she was withdrawn and antisocial – like she was sulking. In most of the pictures we have of that day, she’s WAY on the outside –almost out of the photo. The end result is that I ended up getting into a huge argument with her and she isn’t speaking to me now.
In the meantime, my bridal party (all of two people including my sister) have been planning my shower. I know the date (my sister is OOT); I have purchased some things for it; I have been asked to approve the menu and pick a cake and I’ve been cc’d on the email arguments they are having about the planning. Bottom line, I am 100% aware of how inconvenient my wedding is for everyone.
For the past month, I’ve just been so sad and pretty grouchy about the whole wedding scene. DH and I are happy together…so that’s not the problem. I am just really aware of how much this all cost, how much work it is for everyone and kinda feel like it’s for nothing because we’re already married. How can I get past feeling so crummy about this?

Its not for nothing sweetie! The first wedding was the ceremony for the family in an emergency. This is the wedding the two of you wanted. As for the girls fighting with the planning.... Unfortunatly most showers aren't planned without a fight or two. I wish I could say more to make you feel better. The wedding blues are the worst. We are all here for you!

With every wedding, big or small, there are arguments, there is drama. Even though you had your ceremony already, just look at this as a celebration of your love and life together... Try to enjoy it.

I myself get the wedding blues sometimes because it is over whelming. On the bright side, not too many brides get two weddings . Like someone else said, 'This wedding is for you and your husband'. I wish you the best and hope you have a happy and blessed wedding

This wedding is about you and your husband, not about Mom, not about the people involved in planning your shower. You were selfless enough to plan a wedding so that one of the most important people in your lives could attend and that just says how truly genuine you are. If other people have problems/issue/ drama that is on them. That is their issue that you will never, ever be able to fix. Let those people who love, care and want to do this for you share in your celebration because ultimately, its those people who will surround you for the rest of your lives.

Thanks girls! I do keep telling myself that most people don't get two weddings (at least not to the same person in the same year
I guess I keep getting lost in the details (so many of them) of wedding planning and all the drama (so MUCH of it), I forget that in the end, it's OUR day.
Thanks for reminding me!!
