Get this one

Not quite sure how I feel about this one yet but thought I would share--of course I am having fun with the planning but I wanted to see if anyone else has expreienced this---

I have 7 nieces on my side and the second oldest is making her communion in May-my oldest niece had small communion --they converted so the communion itself wasn't as large as a catholic one would be-- well origninally My SIL was having it in a local italian restaurant but the time they got from teh church 5 pm on Sat didn't work with the restaurant so she started to look around

Well she called tons of places and ended up looking at the Meadow Club--so now my niece is having a mini wedding-- Sat night with Dj, etc

Is this crazy or is it just me?

We come from a large Italian family and everyone always gets invited--- and like I said this is the first to make her commmunion but still this seems like a lot to me

Opinions?

I think it sounds like a lot. It will be fun, but that's a big party for a little girl.

For my first communion we had an open house party where friends and family came in and out during the afternoon/evening.

But it's super competitive or something - one of my friends was planning her son's first communion party two months ago for may and had a very hard time finding an available restaurant.

That doesmt surprise me, my cousin just went to a christening at Russos on the bay, her daughter had a sweet 16 invite to the Harrison House.

Way to much for me

It's nice, yes, but to me...if you have the communion at such a place like that, then where will the sweet 16 be? Then the graduation party? Then the wedding? It gets very out of hand sometimes.

it sounds like a lot...but if they can swing it...its a nice way to get everyone together...

an old coworker of mine had a wedding photographer at her daughters communion...so I guess its getting to be a big event...

I think all of these types of parties (christening, communion, first birthday) have gotten very big - hall, dj, etc. It just seems to be the growing trend....

Most of our parties were at the house or in the backyard if the weather was nice. Miss those old days!

I think it's totally out of hand.
My nieces and nephews on my DH's side all had HUGE first birthday parties - rented out halls or restaurants, had DJs, clowns, Elmo, the whole bit w/ like 100 adults and 30 kids.
Same with communions, christenings and sweet sixteens.
What ever happened to having cupcakes and a party at your house???

DH's step mother does this for her grand children's first birthday. It seems silly to me since the birthday girl or boy are the ones that don't even really know whats going on.

Our birthday parties were spent standing around the kitchen table with cake then play pin the tail on the donkey and we called it a day

Christine, Exactly!!! It's all about status and who has what money and who spends the most. It's ridiculous and its one of the reasons I can't stand Long Island anymore. I can't imagine people do this other places.

My Italian family tends to do everything big as well. My communion party was in a hall with a band and my younger brother's was in a hall with a DJ, so were both our our confirmation parties.

The communion party I don't remember, but the confirmation party was fun as a teenager.
