How old is it? How (sorry, TMI) filled is it? What is the condition of it? How much it would be to replace? What over the counter chemicals work best to aid breakdown of waste. How structurally sound is it (fear of cave in's and such).

I'm a licensed environmental engineer and believe me when I tell you, I've been at a couple of sites with cesspools and have even sampled a few at industrial places. Umm, I kind of get used to it... all in a day's work, LOL!

Here's a few things that come to my mind:

- Is it a cesspool or sanitary system with leaching fields? (This is important because the solids tank of a septic system will need to be pumped, whereas a cesspool should not if it was constructed right).

- How many are there? What size is it?

- Is there a separate one for the laundry?

- Is it cinder block construction?

- Where is it located and how far below grade is it?

That's all I can think of now. FM if you have any more specific questions.
