getting a birth certificate?

getting a birth certificate?

Hi everyone,

My FH just realized that he doesn't have a copy of his birth certificate, and our officiant told us that we need one to get a marriage license (apparently, some clerks will accept a passport, but only some will do this). I'm stumped about how to replace the certificate and immediately thought of you folks... you have answers for everything! Anyone know how to replace a birth certificate?

Thanks a million!

i think the person needs to request one from the town hall (town or city) or hospital in which they were born from.. i could be wrong but i believe it's one of those two places.

Just have FH go to the town hall of the town he was born in - he can obtain a copy there. The fee is anywhere from $5-15- can't remember. But it's super easy.

I think I ordered mine over the internet, I thought from the state of NY but maybe it was NYC (I was born in Manhattan) ... just do a search for info.

I had to get a replacement when I was going for my passport. I called Nassau county and asked them what do I do. They gave me the # of the borough I was born in in the city, I called them , they told me to write a letter why I needed it and sent them a check, and they mailed it to me. They will tell u exactly what is needed in the letter. Hope this helps.

FI and I were born in Queens and I had to get a copy of our birth certificates. I went down to the Hall of Records in Manhatten. It took me longer on the train to get there then I was on line.

But definatly check the town you were born in. I am sure they can be of help of how to obtain this information
