Getting a second kitty

Getting a second kitty

Hi, I am just looking for advice and experiences on this one... I have a 3 yr old male Maine Coon who is declawed (He was declawed when I got him - I didn't do it). He's VERY vocal but not very lively and FH has been telling me for some time that he needs some kitty company as we're gone all day. I just got a call from the animal hospital to ask if I am interested in adopting a 15 month old female Siamese who is also declawed.

I told them I will take her for a trial, but I don't want to p*ss off my kitty or have a big problem introducing them. I only have a (big) one bed apt. How has anyone handled this?

do you WANT another cat, cuz if you dont i dont think you should, cats arent like dogs so theyre fine home alone all day..... but if you want one. go for it!

My sister inherited a 9 year old declawed cat from her ex roomate and her roomate a year ago got a little kitty and had her declawed too (so sad), but anyhow, the older one HATED her, but he became more active and they have a love/hate relationship now. They chase eachother around and play. They hiss at eachother, but they definitely enjoy the company.

Another story, a friend of mine...his cat is about 2 1/2 years old and he just got a baby kitten and they are best friends! He cleans the new little guy. They play fight and he knows to be gentle. He has become a lot more outgoing since the little guy came along, so I say do it!

Thanks for the feedback. Of course I want another cat. I am a real animal lover - I just want to make sure I do the right thing by both kitties. In fact, I'm such a possessive mommy to my boy now that I should never have children - I'd suffocate them

I am the same way with my boys. People tell FH, wait until she has kids...
