Getting Engaged - Romantic Weekend Getaway Ideas??

Hi Everyone - One of my best friends is getting engaged and needs some ideas on how to make the engagement special for his girlfriend.

He is planning to propose in February and I think he is looking for a place that is convenient to get to from NY. I would normally suggest a long weekend in Paris, or a quick getaway to the Caribbean, but I think vacation time will be an issue for them since they are teachers, and my friend is thinking about something somewhat 'local.'

Maybe a really nice B&B in Vermont?? Not sure what else, so I figured all of you ladies who recently got engaged could help.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or creative ideas!!

We went there in February and its really quiet, but romantic.

Check the B&B out - it was awesome.

How about Newport in one of the castles??

Or Quebec or Montreal for that European feel

I got engaged in New Paltz at this romantic mansion B&B called Mohonk, about an hour north of manhattan. I would highly recommend it! It was a little pricey so we were only there for one night, but it was perfect! we did it in the summer, so there were a ton of outdoor activities. FH proposed to me as we took a light hike after stuffing ourselves at their amazing breakfast buffet. Not sure what they'd do in the winter, but the place was super cozy - wood decor, and steeped in history. there's an indoor pool and spa as well. here is the website

ETA: One caveat - the cell reception was horrible! we had to try and try to get any connection to call people to tell them. I still thought it was worth it :)

PS - I just looked. they are having a weekday spa special. i know you said they don't have a lot of time, so not sure if a weekday would work.

ETA 2: I'm a ditz! They are teachers and he's looking at Feb. Although...if they have presidents day off, maybe the night before would work?

i know of a GREAT little romantic place up in New Hampshire! i reccomend it to everyone for a cozy romantic getaway we did a three day vacay that was in the BEST suite(the gazebo suite), included a horse pulled sleighride, 1night of dinner & an in room couples massage for about $600! it was AWESOME. they always have specials going on...also tell them that the '1875 Inn' is fantastic as a dinner choice if they get a package that includes it. anyways, here's the website - it's such a great place! if u need any other info let me know :) please tell ur friend to tell them that Taryn & Josh Garsik recommended them!

How about staying in the city? It is close and I am sure there are plenty of romantic things to do.
