Getting introduced...

Getting introduced...

Here's a question for you guys: When FH and I get introduced I kind of have and issue with being Mrs. Michael G. I'm not a feminist by any means, but I have a first name, ya know? So i told the DJ I wanted us to be introduced as 'Mr. and Mrs. Michael and Doreen G...'. and he looked at me kind of funny....with this look like 'are you sure.'. Well, I know that is not tradionally correct, etc, but I'm giving up my last name...can I please keep my first one for the intros??? Do you guys think I am nuts?? Is my idea totally inappropriate or whatever? Even my dad was like 'oh..that is interesting!!' Opinions please...

Can't the DJ say:

Introducing for the first time as Husband and Wife,

Michael and Doreen G.

JMO.

No, I agree!!!! I don't see why we have to loose our first name too!

Re: Getting introduced...

I think that is fine. At my sisters wedding they said her first name. At the recent weddigns I have been too they have also said the bride's name. I don't think it is inappropriate at all. It is your day.

I agree with nrvbrd. I think if you have Mr & Mrs and then each of your first names. It might be a little weird. But now that I think of it... I don't think I would even notice if I were a guest!

Good luck!

Re: Getting introduced...

Why do any of your first names have to be used. Isn't it just

'Introducing for the first time, Mr. & Mrs. X?'

Re: Getting introduced...

I did exactly what you want and had no problem.
I know exactly how you feel and by no means did I want them to say it at my wedding. (I had the hardest time addressing my invites that way too!) I thought it was justa silly hang up that I had but surprisingly many woman feel the same was as you and I.

Re: Getting introduced...

Thanks girls! I'm gonna keep it the way i have it. I like the Mr. and Mrs. part rather than just Mike and Doreen G....

I think FH was also a little taken back by it, but I said to him, how would you like to be Mr. Doreen D...??? He wasn't such a fan! :-) I don't think they get the emotions that can go on when you change the name you have known your whole life as you!

Wow it's so funny you posted this - I was just thinking the SAME thing when I was filling out the information sheet for the DJ! I am happy to see so many people doing Mr. & Mrs. Mitchell and Mary - cuz that's exactly what I was thinking!!

Thanks girls!

Re: Getting introduced...

I'm so glad others plan on doing this. My DJ looked at me like I was the first one to ever think of doing such a strange thing!!

Re: Getting introduced...

I REFUSE TO EVERY be called Mrs. Scott Campbell. WTF???? So we were asked up for our first dance as 'We now invite Michele and Scott to come to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife'

Also, being a feminist means believing that women are equal and should have choices. It is not a bad word.

Oh, just so you know there was a huge thread about the Mr. & Mrs. Ann and Bill Jones thing on Weddingchannel a while ago. It is not grammatically correct to use. I don't care if you do, and I doubt anyone else will either but just wanted you to know.

Re: Getting introduced...

That's how I was introduced 'Mr. and Mrs. Jason and Tracy.... ' I felt the same way, I have a first name AND a last name, at least let me keep my first!
Don't worry, that's a normal request.
