Do you think getting married by a Justice of the Peace prior to having a church wedding, would take away from the actual ceremony when the 'wedding' would take place? My FH and I are in the process of buying a house and should go into closing within the next couple of weeks. Ever since I was little I dreamed of getting married, then getting the house, etc....we are doing things a bit different. My grandfather actually suggested that we maybe get married by the Justice of the Peace and then have our wedding. After talking to my FH last night, he wouldn't mind having a marriage by the Justice of Peace, but then as we thought more, we don't want it to take away from our 'actual wedding day.' What would you guys think?

I think thats really only a question YOU can answer. Do you think you would feel differently on your wedding day, knowing you're already married?

a couple of the ppl that I know did that. and it didnt take away from their big day at all. granted they didnt tell anyone they're doing it, just the very close family, but after they did that they still didnt feel married - their actual wedding was when they got that 'oh my God! we're married!' feeling bottom line though, you are the only one who can decide how you feel about doing that

I want to do the same thing actually. I want to have the wedding be at the JOP and be married like 2 months before, house reason, name change reasons. etc..FH said no way..I even wanted to elope or do a destination wedding..he is old school.

You have to decide whats best for you...personally, I hate the idea of it. We were considering this option for health insurance purposes and it was beyond upsetting to me to think that we'd be married already on our big day.
But that's me...if its not going to bother you then its not a big deal
