I'm getting measured for my dress tomorrow and ive been reading about bridal salons and how ur supposed to make sure they arent ripping you off....for all of you who have gotten measured already, what does it mean when they say that they order the largest size?...like say i measure out to be a 34, 26, 36..and the size chart says size 0 31 22.5 34.5 2 32 23.5 35.5 4 33 24.5 36.5 6 34 25.5 37.5 8 35 26.5 38.5 10 36.5 28 40
which size would i be?

Do not order the larger size if you know your weight isn't going to fluctuate. Go with how you feel when you try on the dress. If it is a size 10 and your swimming in it and they tell you to order the size 8, don't do it. I feel like the say that just so you will have to get it altered and give them more money or the seamstress they recommend. The last wedding I was they tried to make me order a size larger than my measurements and I refused. The dress came in and fit perfectly.

Re: Getting measured...
my guess is this one.... all the measurements are slightly bigger but the one before it isn't quite there.... i could be TOTALLY wrong - it's a stab in the dark!!!!

Re: Getting measured...
well i think the main reason why they do this is because its easier to take in a dress then it is to take out.... you never know if you're gonna gain weight... and then its gonna be a prob when you get a smaller size and they have to add to the fabric

Actually, also you may need to order a size larger if you want the dress to fit a certain way. If you are big on top and small on the bottom, you are going to need the top possibly in a larger size to fit & then have it altered on the way down. It really depends on how the dress fit you to gauge what size you are going to need.

perfect reason! for myself, i think my hips are larger than the rest of my body... something that fits my chest isnt gonna fit the bottom half so im prob gonna have to fit the hips and then take it in in other places

They would prob order the larger size since it would be cheaper to take in rather than to add fabric if it's too small. But then again, if you plan on losing weight you might want to go with the smaller size.

Re: Getting measured...
i was swimming in the sample dress..and i think it was a 12 or 14..the lady that was helping me said that she thinks i would be 2 or even 3 sizes smaller...i know for sure that the dress is going to have to be hemmed up..seeing as though im 4'11 i just dont wanna be jipped with alterations

I agree! Always better to go alittle bigger. Its easier to take it in then to let it out!

Re: Getting measured...
I just ordered a bridesmaids dress for my friends wedding and they lady at the bridal salon recommended getting a size bigger than what I would have thought. I figure that the sales ladies know what they are talking about though, so I ordered it bigger and will get it altered.

Re: Getting measured...
Also remember that dress sizes are smaller than street size... I am a regular size 10 in dresses and pants 8 (but I have big proportion on top ) but I have to order my dress size 14 b/c they run small
