Getting really discouraged

Getting really discouraged

This job search is really getting me down. I can't seem to get responses from people.

I really want to go back to work. Being unemployed has been the most unbearable time of my life. I need a job NOW!

I think I have cried every day

Re: Getting really discouraged

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling down about your job search. These things can take a long time, but remember: the length of time they take is no reflection on you and your talents/abilities.

If you're really on edge and you want to get out of the house (and make some money) I recommend temping. I used to temp in between jobs, and I found that being busy in an office (and near other people) kept me from feeling depressed.

Also, if you're not feeling confident about your resume and/or cover letter, fm me and we can exchange e-mail addresses. I'm happy to look at your documents if you like. I've taught business writing in the past.

I have toyed with the idea of getting a job in Pottery Barn or Williams-Sonoma just to get out (and get the discount) but my DH doesn't want me to compromise my unemployment benefits.

See, I don't want to compromise my unemployment benefits!! Are there no jobs off the books in the world anymore?

That's what I was going to suggest. I livie across the street from CVS & they are always hiring & I think at some point I'd need to do something & would just apply there. But yes, if unemployment is more than you would make in retail, wait untill it runs out.

Is there something you could volunteer to do, just to keep busy?

I don't know your industry but are you using all the websites (monster, hotjobs, careerbuilder, etc) and a headhunter?

I know how frustrating it can be - I was just home myself for over 4 months. I just recently started working again and it's ok. It's not my dream job but the salary and benefits are good and the boss is nice.

Good luck to you!!

I have been looking on all of the job banks and directly at the publishers websites. I have sent in for things and am just not hearing back.

It stinks! But....try hanging in there and being patient. DH was laid off before we got married and pretty much took the 1st job he was offered in December. He wanted to get back to work so badly, I don't think he thought about what he wouldn't like about the job, so now he is looking again.

For now.

Are there headhunters in publishing? I too was sending my resume and not getting any response.

The only time I saw some real action was with the help of a headhunterand also how I got my present job....

On a plus side - please take your time home to do any and all of the things you've wanted to do - I miss being home -
I really enjoyed taking care of my husband and house - I was making dinner every night, buying fresh fish, etc.
I was able to travel and visit with my dad
(and not worry about getting home for work)
I organized my closets and kitchen
I exercised, etc
I visited with my friend that are SAHM
I took my elderly aunt to her dr's appt

Good luck! I hope you find something you like soon!

I cried a lot while I was out of work too. I just felt hopeless. But, eventually, I found something that has made me so much happier then where I was before.
Try to keep positive.
LOTS of job dust!!!!!!!
