Getting very depressed... too many relationships ending around me...

I can't take it anymore! I want to be happy and excited about getting married, but lately it's been very hard. Several people around me have been breaking up. I posted earlier about my friends calling off their engagement, my brother is getting divorced, my cousin and her husband are having problems because he just cheated on her... It's just so discouraging! Then just to make things better, I heard two wonderful comments recently: first, someone told me that 50% of ENGAGEMENTS break up (I know about 50% of marriages break up but Engagements?!) and then when I was talking to a friend about all this discouraging stuff she said to me 'don't worry, it's better to be a divorce' than never married' Can you believe that!!! UGH!

I know what you mean! In the last couple of months, my family and friends have all either gotten engaged or broke up with their long term significant other (most have broken up - all but 2 actually - me and my cousin who just got married)

It ****s because you are living in happy land where you are for your wedding! (btw LOVE HAPPYLAND!)

Don't worry - after the initial shock of everything, everything will be ok - just don't forget you are one of the lucky ones to have found a good significant other

I know what you mean.

But, thank god people get divorced, otherwise my FI would be out of a job! He's a divorce lawyer!

the 50% of all marriages end in divorce figure is a bit deceiving...many of the divorces are from repeat deviorces...you know you've heard of someone getting married 3-4-5 times...


so...hopefully...thats a little bit of good news!!

Breakups aren't contagious, although it may seem that way! I know a bunch of people who called off their weddings last year and it made me look at my own relationship more closely, and reaffirmed for me that I was making the right decision. Don't let it get you down!!

I was joking with FH that is must be b.c summer is here. In college my housemates and I always joked that guys break up with chicks a lot more often in the summer.

Seriously, I have noticed it lately, but if people call off an engagement I give them a lot of credit. It must be difficult to tell everyone you changed your mind.


Plus, I don't think that its really getting to the point where MORE marriages are breaking up, it's just that people talk about it more and accept it---not as taboo as it used to be. I'd rather my friends break up then stay in an unhealthy relationship b.c they don't want to be divorced.

Jan60504- I know exactly what you mean. I was at dinner with FI last weekend and we were all happy and laughing, and some strang woman came over to us and goes, 'did you two just get engaged?' so all happy I was like, 'yeah, how did you know?!' She goes, 'You both are all gitty, that doesn't last for long.' I could not believe this stranger said this to me. What a bitter woman!

Don't worry about other people breaking up. Just consentrate on your relationship and BE HAPPY!!!

The best thing to do is focus on your own relationship and work together to make it stronger each day.

come hang out with my friends - they're all getting engaged, getting married or having babies!! No breakups over here (knock on wood).

Chin up! Don't let them bring you down. Now more than ever, you should be happy you have such a wonderful relationship! (and hopefully those around you can be happy for you too!)

i know how you feel several of our friends went through hard times, fh's mom passed away and his dad was very sick all once we got engaged and we wondered what the heck we were doing..but we love each other and realized that now more than ever we want to spend the rest of our lives together....plus the irony is that my bf who broke off her long term relationship is the most interested out of all about the wedding plans....its hard to be happy and it is depressing but it'll work out - you guys have each other to help during these weird/sad times too, which is important!
